Hello to all , new player to planetside 2. Luv this game , has to be like the best game ever
 Can' find my character though on the Data Link , am I doing something wrong ? I go to the Data Link button and then in the search box enter my character name which is xGauntx but no matches come up. Am i not doing this the right way ?

Probably just because it hasn't updated yet, your character should show up sooner rather than later.
