The problem with alterts is that they can go two ways. Sometimes I see them actually making people go and fight for a continent with decent fights everywhere. And sometimes I see at least on faction not really caring for the alert.
I don't have a full conclusion why that is but I observe the later one most of the times during non-prime time. On my sever, even during prime time pop balance is not all too great. It's okay, but not balanced. Outside of prime time it's 42+% TR which seeems to make VS and to some extend NC not caring about the alerts. Why that is I don't know for certain but I have a theory. Most of the time it's the outfits who drive people to fight at specific places because of continent pop balance. If the outfits switch to the continent and pop balance changes then Joe Casual also comes to join the fun. But if the outfits aren't there to do the initial push, and pop balance remains unbalanced, the switch of non-outfit players simply doesn't happen. |

What the hell does "end game" even mean in the context of PlanetSide 2? Are people looking for raid bosses that BR 90+ characters can fight repeatedly for weeks in order to unlock legendary weapons, armor, or attachments?

Ie: cont locking, or outfit bases. And I like the mission system, even in its infancy. It gives a little more purpose and direction for some fights, and that's okay in my books. Just last night, I found myself staying logged into the game simply waiting for an alert to end, despite it being way past my bedtime I needed to be apart of the outcome. It's a start. END GAME is. Like we saw on PS1.
It ranges from, for different people Taking a continent fully and locking it Taking all caves and having benefits Taking all home bases of an empire Taking all of one empires territory and gaining their tech Taking the whole of Auraxis and winning the game locking out all empires. This is so rare that when you experience it, you don't FUCKING FORGET IT. You speak about it every time you go to a LAN party discussing Planetside, or when you talk about epic things online. PS2 won't really be talked about in the gaming future, but Planetside 1 definitely will BE!

I love the alerts. They provide a much needed change from Indarside and they offer you fierce competition that actually declares a winner.
No one cares about the XP award it is so small it i just fun to win. Every Alert has been intense and very fun for our Outfit. I am loving the competition it brings to the game. Sure it isn't a long term goal but for now it is an exciting and fun twist on the current gameplay.

First of all the term end game isn't even applicable to Planetside 2. Not only is it persistent, there is no high level/experience content. Everyone can have access to everything after some time invested. Experience only gives versatility.
Now, the alerts. Quitcherbitchin. If you had done more reading you'd know this is only a taste of the mechanic that will be tied in with the mission system in the future. Please just rage-uninstall now and move on. |

How is this the end of anything? This is a strategic choice not an ending reward. Why cap a continent to get a benefit if you're not gonna use it? Why lock an empire to a warpgate if you're not going to defend it?

Most people don't. When you use a term like endgame that has roots so deep in MMORPGs and has so many different meanings in THOSE games, you're assuming everyone playing this totally different game will have the same meaning for that word.
So it's all ready lost in translation... Then you get all the FPS people who haven't touched an MMO in their life thinking "WTF is this guy talking about? The end of a match?" So when someone wants to express their opinion they should take the time to write out legitimate thought, concern, and feedback instead of just going with a copout and picking some label they expect to talk for them. |
