Why does the question "gaming laptop" need clarification on WHY the guy wants a laptop? or, 'Dude buy a tower' is about the crappiest answer you can give.

I would suggest taking a looksy at IBUYPOWER as well, and of course, ALWAYS keep an eye out on refurbished and 'Open Box' Laptops, as you can get an AMAZING deal.

I have an IBUYPOWER CZ-17 Laptop, i7 2.3-2.8ghz, 8GB DDR3, GTX 670m, 750gb HDD, Backlit KB, AMAZING Speakers, and more and I only paid 975$ USD for it.

Bought a 256gb SSD for 230$, put it in, installed a fresh Windows 7, and now it boots up in about 10 seconds.

Gets about 30-60 FPS on mixed settings in PS2.

I have a desktop with a 4ghz AMD 1090T BE Hex-core CPU, 16gb DDR3 RAM, and 2x Radeon 7970s OCed to 1ghz. and I haven't turned it on since I bought this laptop back in november. Makes my desktop so sad.

Indeed, but he wants one to play PS2. How often did you find yourself with an internet connection that could handle a game like this? A gaming laptop is good if you're going place to place and want to play offline games. I owned one myself and while it lasted, it was a great machine.

Because he asked us to help him find the optimal set up. I would be remiss if I didn't help him consider ALL of the elements that go into owning a gaming laptop.

More often than not. I tend to stay where there's business-class internet available. Supplemental, you're overestimating PS2's bandwidth requirements. Hotel latency isn't always optimal, but always quite playable. And that's just me. I presume OP is also perfectly capable of deciding whether his roaming pattern supports FPS gaming.

I have to agree. Internet Requirements in most countries are nowadays most often not necessary. It may vary by country however (when in Italy I always cringe at the internet connections provided most everywhere, though I still manage to play).

I run Planetside 2 at low~medium settings (which don't look that bad) and I usually get 30- 40 fps. I use a cheap laptop with following specs
i3- 3110m 2.4 ghz
4 gigs ddr3 ram
intel graphics 4000

I have this one, i'm running PS2 on ultra-settings except for shadows that are on medium, and i get 30+ fps everywhere. I don't know about the cost though, i bought mine about a year ago and it was a litlle bit pricy...

Oh, and if you want to spend an extra 1300 dollars for the 3.0-3.9GHz processor, you an get the even faster MSI laptop:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834152430

3,999 dollars. That would mitigate concerns about CPU limitations.

And, yes it's expensive compared to a tower. So what? We're talking about laptops.

A similarly configured model from XoticPC.com costs a couple hundred less or so.

As most have said so far, laptops will have trouble running this. The above post is right, if you want to run PS2 on high settings on a laptop, it will cost a crap-ton.

I used to be like you. Ended up sucking it up and buying a desktop, you can keep upgrading it so you don't have to buy a new computer as technology evolves. Also don't have to worry about parts very much, a good case with a lot of fans will ensure that you don't overheat and your parts take very little wear.

Some of those gaming laptops are very overpriced. Alienware and MSI must have huge profit margins.

Try this:
http://www.kitguru.net/laptops/zardo...-770xs-review/

17.3" Matte Full HD LED Widescreen (1920x1080)
Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-4700MQ (2.40GHz) 6MB
16GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 (2 x 8GB)
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 780M - 4.0GB DDR5 Video RAM - DirectX® 11

120GB KINGSTON HYPERX 3K SSD, SATA 6 Gb/s (upto 555MB/sR | 510MB/sW)
750GB WD SCORPIO BLACK WD7500BPKT, SATA 3 Gb/s, 16MB CACHE (7200 rpm)

4x BLURAY ROM, 8x DVD ±R/±RW & CYBERLINK SOFTWARE
Internal 9 in 1 Card Reader (MMC/RSMMC/SD: Mini, XC & HC/MS: Pro & Duo)
Intel 5.1 Channel High Definition Audio + SPDIF/MIC/Headphone Jack
GIGABIT LAN & KILLER™ 1202 WIRELESS GAMING 802.11N + BLUETOOTH 4.0

£1450, is about $2,225.30

Yes, I know I could have bought a hideously powerful tower, I just like being to game anywhere I want in the house though.

I just bought this, and am really looking forward to getting into Planetside 2. It should be arriving in a couple of weeks.

If anyone has any idea about kind of frame rates I might expect to get, that'd be awesome.
