If PS comes off as CLEANLY and as welll as well all believe, and the indications are it will... what would you like to see as the basis of the NEXT MMOFPS style game?

Me, I think the Tom Clancy book "Red Storm Rising" would be the PERFECT setting for an MMOFPS.

I'd like to see something along the lines of a counter-strike style one. Modern weapons, Navy SEALS, SAS... etc.. etc...

Although I don't think you could really pull off any kind of story because how would you explain the death/respawn thing?

More non combat orientations, maybee a scientist kinda thing... research new weapons.
Timed abilities, artillery, napalm etc for commaders

And a war thats winable.... but resests when a side has won

I could see Red Storm Rising as a setting for the game, but pity the poor people who chose to fight with Soviet equipment...

I'd like to see something like Civ 3, but that allows people to take personal command of the armies. City states would be the most noticeable part and clans would make countries

Real Life Scenario

I'd like to see something with a very large scope. I'd like to see NPC's in a city. Some selling hotdogs on the side street, some walking to thier executive high rise for work. Also, you could get in a car and travel to to the countryside.. just to look at cows. There you could find NPC farmers, or people camping in the woods.. etc.

In this game the players could do anything the NPC's were doing.. ie, live a normal life.. OR they could be law enforcement, thugs on the street, members of a vigalante super-secret ninja group ... etc..

As far as combat, have it to where this can be done any time, anywhere, with repercussions. One COULD shoot innocent bystanders.. but if an NPC spotted you, you'd be hunted down by players on law enforcement, or NPC law enforcement.

I know, this may sound kind of open ended, not so focused, but if these elements were used, it'd be fun

Another idea of mine would be a realistic wildlife simulation. You could pick a type of animal and try and survive in your natural habitat.. as a wolf, you'd hunt rabbits, as a rabbit you'd hunt plantlife.. . You could have all the senses that this animal is supposed to have, you could smell danger from miles away.. and perhaps have player that are hunters.. they'd have thier own goals.

Just something different, ehhe.

WWII, 50,000 players to a server, deformable landscape, as real as it can get
lots of vehilces, much more realistic than BF vehicles, but not simulator realistic, something accessible to players yet inclusive of the real war environment
scheduled events like airdrops over certain cities and targets. high up commanders are able to order new ships and planes to be built in certain areas. this is how vehicle spawning will be handled. some vehicles will require a higher rank than others
there will be scheduled events like AI piloted airdrops, beach landings and bombing raids
blood. i'm want a game that's as atmospheric and realistic as possible, and in WWII there was lots of blood. MOH gave some lame ass excuse saying they wore too much clothing for there to be much blood. bullshit, there was blood in WWII, so there will be in the game, not an excessive amount, just a realistic amount of blood.
firefights will be more prolonged and strategy involving experiences, not like these lighting quick fights where one side charges the other we seem to be seeing in games, but like you see in the movies, where most bullets miss there mark.
AI controlled artillery batteries that you can call on if it's available and you have the rank to do so. you can also man the artillery and control it manually if you want to. weather that actually has an effect on gameplay. for example, you wouldn't be able to luanch a bombing raid into the middle of a storm or launch landing craft in the middle of raging sees because they would capsize.

Kickass.

The problem with all of this is, well, we can't really have bases or anything, if they make everything historically correct we'll be fighting over small ass bunkers with no base assets gens or anything. This is what really drove me away from BF1942 and kept me playing Tribes 2. But then, it's just an opinion.

no, i'm imagining a game on the scale where you're fighting for cities and land, not small as bunkers. and yes there would be bases, like airfields and amor bases. you would strategically strike these to hamper their ability to spawn aircraft at the airfield, ships in harbours, and armor in armor bases

uhhh.... lots of ppl give a shit about WWII, it's a fascinating war, the first real, large scale modern day war, clearly defined sides without all the politically correct bullshit they have now. the problem with doing a game like that in moder day is that all modern day conflicts are limited to little regions fighting militia and stuff. WWII lets you run all over Europe and the Pacific.

WWII has great subject matter for games

Not flaming here but many people gave there lives in that war, I don't think it's a very good gesture to speak of it that way.

hmmm... since we're talkin' MMOFPS... WWII seems the big flavor over the last year or two.

I like the idea of "Red Storm Rising." But in this case, the developers would vamp the "Russian" Military hardware to be complaciant with US hardware(so no lopsided tech advantag)

I wouldn't mind a C&C Generals theme MMOFPS. The equipment is there, the resource thought process is there, and then give "hi-ranking" generals the ability to purchase Mobile Command Vehicles to start new bases would allow a nice cross of FPS and RTS.

Not to mention, the buildings would be completely destroyable.

Battles would not only focus on land territory, but also resource depots and bases being constructed by players. No NPCs to entertact with. Can create AI controlled gun turrets or manual override and man them yourself.

You've got aircraft, land vehicles. etc.

Granted they tried in Renegade (such a let down to me) but in MMOFPS, they have more leverage to do things, more room to work. and you don't need superweapons (granted if you do have super weaps, battling to destroy those buildings would be huge!).

just a thought, but i think PS is a perfect jump point into MMOFPS
