On foot kill more tanks than in tank

On foot kill more tanks than in tank

I feel as an NC soldier I kill more tanks per life being on foot and using anti tank mines and Phoenix than being in well certed Vanguard with anti tank canon.

Is it broken game mechanics or work as designed?

Or may be I do not know how to use Vanguard properly?
