Platoons?

Hey,
I've been rummaging through the manual and the official boards and the psu boards and the beta boards, and i have a question.
I remember reading somewhere that 2-3 squads can come together and form a platoon and work together. is this an actual feature, or something that is being released on a later date, or something i'm pulling out of the perverbial void known as my ass?
I swear I read somewhere about linking squads into platoons, but haven't seen it ingame and can't find info on it.
Does anyone know?
