Lots of good tips here already.
Just a word of warning though. Don't place mines too close together inside the cloak field. I've seen one jammer nade take out half the mines and reduce the AMS to half strength and damage or kill everyone nearby. Space them slightly further apart. You don't get the same coverage, but you reduce the chance of some serious damage.

The minimum distance bettween the mines nomaly works good for me. I spend alot of my time hanging around the AMS until I am pretty sure we have the enemy one the run, instead of them having us on the run. And if any of my mines go off, without me seeing a death meesage, I am comming for them.
Oh, yeah, about moving the AMS, it is a very good thing to do in certain situations. I find that if an infantryman finds my AMS, I better move it because he is going to call down his unwashed hoardes to flail at my AMS till it goes boom. If it is an infiltrator, I find that nine times out of ten, they don't tell anybody, they just keep comming back to try and hack it. Some sort of infiltrator pride thing.
And while we are on the topic of giving advice to AMS abusers, if you have engineering, and you spawn at a damaged AMS, take the time to fix it, and, like everyone else here has said, don't make a beline straight for the base, its bad for bussiness.
EDIT:
Nice guide
