Lets see.. Today was the long awaited CS 1.6 LAUNCH!! WOOT WOOT WOOT!
It also was the first CS update purely by thier UPDATED STEAM 2.0!!!
Check this out...
They had 500meg Pipe to cater to the public... First off, the 4 meg Steam updater got leaked.. Then people like me started DLing it all early...
Then Valves bandwidth went bye bye...
CS 1.6 is like a 160 meg file.. there are around 70,000 CS players on any given night... 70,000 x 160 megs = 11,200,000 worth of Data to send out. (BTW, there are MORE then that many CS players, thats just the average tottal of CS players..) 500megs of bandwidth CANNOT meet even a 1/4 of that kinda of demand...
So anyhoots, before they had officially given out the patch file to the 4-5 sites selected to carry it.. they shut it down and shut down CS.. great... so people like me are faced with RELOADING HL and CS to play 1.5 or wait till Valve gets its collective head out of its collective ARSE! Isnt that WONDERFUL??? I hate them
BTW for those that dont know.. Steam is a BROADBAND only content delivery system Valve cooked up, its currently in beta, but eventually you will only be able to update ANY AND ALL VALVE programs through it.. and of course.. it will cost you money to do so.. isn't that nice?
