Linux questions.

Ok I have recently purchased an additional 40GB HD for extra storage for my computer that I share with a friend. However after closer inspection I found that he had 13 incomplete torrents. So I didnt need my new hard drive anylonger. Now I have decided to install linux on that hard drive and put it as a second boot option. Where can I get the necissary software to do this?
