July 20, 2006 - Though players have yet to spend time with its advanced technology themselves, Epic's Unreal Engine 3 is already a ubiquitous part of next-generation development. Today, Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) announced it is has licensed the engine for its own future titles, including the still-mysterious DC Comics MMORPG project. SOE will use Unreal Engine 3 for both PC and console titles.
"Our development teams are very excited about harnessing the power of Unreal Engine 3," said SOE president John Smedley. "The combination of a top-notch graphics engine and a robust set of design tools will enable our teams to deliver incredible and innovative
game content for next-generation consoles and the PC."
SOE Austin is working with Warner Bros. Interactive on the
DC Comics online game, which is in development for next-gen platforms and the PC. Comic veteran Jim Lee is contributing to the project as Executive Creative Director.
Sony isn't announcing additional Unreal Engine 3 titles just yet, though we expect to hear more about the company's plans soon.
