Basic laws of physics with "equal and opposite reaction". If gravity is pulling downward and the magrider is hovering stationary, then it goes to reason that the mag has something that is at least as strong as the force of gravity counteracting it. Given the mag is still an armored beast that's still extremely heavy and getting underit could still be quite crushing.
The mag might be more maneuverable simply because it has no friction since it isn't contacting the terrain directly, nor does it have wheels to prevent it from moving horizontally.
tl;dr - it could still crush you

Who knows, but modern day hovering tech is much more lethal for a completely different reason: The amount of electromagnetic radiation would kill anyone coming near ^^
