With this F2P model every ban cost the hacker nothing. They will laugh at the ban an just make a new account to continue their fun.
The fact it was a problem with PS1 free accounts and SOE hasn't learned from it is the worst sign. Everyone seems to be taking it on faith that SOE has found some really good way to deal with cheaters. When no game in history has that i'm aware of. They are banned but they return with new harder to detect hacks. And if its F2P they just return instantly.

+1 my friend. F2P is great in theory if done correctly. The cheater/hacker issue is always a problem in PC gaming. I've played and beta tested a lot of games over the years and I can tell you that F2P is the dream of cheaters. There is NO punishment. Sure you loose the account your using, but cheaters don't care about stats. All they want is to troll and piss people off.
On the other hand if you need to cough up money upfront, even $20, this is less the case. I barely encounter cheaters on games you need to pay for upfront(good server Admin's is always a bonus) as you need to invest money.
F2P will open the door to more players which means big battles. I love that, but SOE better build a kick ass anti-cheat system or the game with flop. Punkbuster won't cut it. Also, Admin's/Mod's and lots of them.
