I think these are all low-level soldiers, the higher you ranker the more you represent your empires colors. Hopefully they will add what they did last time and the higher you get you get the basic cosmetic upgrade of a commander (backpack,wrist-pad etc) I don't know why they would take that out.

And those screenshots are looking AMAZING, naturally because of TR.
