You guys might have heard these complaints before so I'm sorry if this is redundant but I'd like to hear your opinions about this stuff.
I'm a long time PS1 player and haven't really been super actively following PS2. I am incredibly excited for this game but I try not to get overly excited about games that aren't out yet... So I'm sure most of you guys know more about PS2 than me.
Anyway, getting to the point. I have two major concerns about this game based on what I've heard/seen so far. I think the game looks stunning, and as awesome as that is it has me concerned because I'm worried that I won't be able to run it, and even if I can run it Planetside is obviously a community game so drastically limiting the player base due to system requirements even hurts the players who can run the game. Do you think the game will be optimized amazingly well because it seems that it would take some sort of miracle to have a game this good looking run well on anything but a super computer in big fights.
My second concern has to do with latency. Anyone who played planetside 1 knows what warping is. People sliding all over your screen due to latency was one of the more annoying things in PS1 and it got to the point where it seemed like half of the best players had bad connections or did something to limit their connections. I saw some of this in the alpha gameplay videos which makes me really concerned. If people are warping around when connected to only 50 or so players who are essentially right next to them, can we expect even worse at launch?
I fully understand that the game is in Alpha, but I'm still worried. Do you think the warping in the videos is a bug or something? Or do you think its a necessary evil to deal with the latency problems that result from thousands of people connecting to the same server?
P.S. if you want to see what I'm talking about take a look at around 1:58 in this video:
