That is actually a very capable use of a Galaxy. As one of the resident fanatical Galaxy pilots, I know a lot of the use and can see a lot more in PS2.

A Galaxy will generally drop its soldiers from the sky, and with some certs, they will be FIRED from the sky at the ground protected by a drop pod at super high speeds.

For your thought, it is quite possible a Galaxy would be called into Infantry vs Infantry situations, using its super heavy armor and multiple crewed guns to deal with the threat before changing objectives. Nothing short of a barrage of heavy missiles will down the Galaxy.
