I'm not saying don't ever add in the Jackhammer, I'm saying a more versatile gun should come first. Match the Lasher and Chaingun, then bring in the Jackhammer (from the way Higby has spoken on guns, they could add in a TON). I'm mostly posting that this should replace the Jackhammer as the main HA weapon. If you have the Jackhammer, a more specialized gun, come along side it, then there is no problem. I wanna see the Jackhammer, but I don't want to be outgunned at longer ranges. If you shrink the spread, your close combat capacity drops, if you put in slugs, it's just like the cannon in that sense. If it's all on a mod, then you lose long or close range and have to fight from only that distance. Basically, leave the Jackhammer alone for the specialists to get and give this Gauss Cannon as a versatile replacement type weapon for HA. It replaces the Jackhammer, but it does not REMOVE the Jackhammer. We just need a more basic HA weapon as our main type.
