Carl
----------------------------------------------- Carl, a semi-loyal solider of the New Conglomerate, had been engaging in one of his primary pastimes, namely sleeping off a hang-over he had gotten from one of his other primary pastimes. Now one can not get drunk in the barracks, the officers frown on that, so he had done so in one of the storage rooms under the base, where he could get sauced up in peace. But now something had interrupted his slumber. It felt like an earth quake. Then the lights went out. A few choice four letter words came to Carl's lips as he stumbled around in the darkness looking for his lamp. After a moment he gave up and, picking up his new and unused Gauss Rifle, stumbled out of the room. It was a while before Carl managed to get out of the dark hall ways and into some that at least had their emergency lights on. Further on he came to one of the old vehicle bays, inside the massive room were several half constructed lightings, and a nearly completed Vanguard tank. But what was more important to Carl was the small medical box up on the walk way, and all he had to do to get the pain killers inside that would cure his hang over, or at least make the headache part of it go away, was climb the ladder, and do so half drunk. It took Carl a moment or twelve but he finally got up onto the grated walk way and over to the medical box. But unfortunately for Carl, several other members of the New Dawn were overly fond of pain killers and all that the box contained was some medical tape and a few dirty magazines. Carl chose a select few of the latter for closer inspection at a later date. Carl was getting ready to challenge the ladder once more, this time in descent, when he spotted a figure that looked like it was trying to be stealthy. A figure in purple armor. Now Carl had some serious doubts about the heterosexuality of several of his comrades in arms, and himself and his friend Wookie had beaten up a few of the more likely suspects, but none of them had done something so gay as to put on purple armor and go sneaking around the base. Damn poofter. But then Carl's keen eyes caught something else; the man had a medical pouch at his waist, and likely had pain killers in that pouch. Soon he would be a dead poofter. Tobias -------------------------------------------------- A wall of fire and shrapnel flew towards Tobias, the building he stood on exploded. And a moment before the flames and flak hit him, just as he began to fall, his personal field activated. The commando he had been fighting did not have a shield, but Tobias doubted he was dead. The roof cracked and then collapsed, Tobias going down with it. Flames shot up all around him, and his ears rang with the sound of explosions. He was not sure where he was, or where Dio or the others were. Well he would find where he was and worry about the others later, they could take care of themselves. A burning building, that much was obvious. The roof was off, but looking up he saw that they had also broken a hole in the floor and he was now in a basement of some kind. Tobias had dropped his bolt driver a while back, and was out of ammunition for his Beamer, but he had his trusty Cycler, taken from a dead Terran Republic member. Tobias took another moment to look around, then spotting a door half blocked by a long steel beam. He could squeeze though. Tobias crept through the corridors, silent as a mouse, until he came to, of all things, a map of this area of the base. The nearest exit to the YOU ARE HERE dot seemed to be in a vehicle bay a few passages away. It was to that location that Tobias headed. It took Tobby several minutes to reach the bay, and after glancing inside to see if the coast was clear he began to sneak across the floor to the doors he saw on the other side of the bay. It was slightly before he heard the shots that the first sliver of metal ripped though his armor, entering in his back, punching a hole in his left lung, and then emerging though his chest, followed quite soon by allot of blood. Tobias spun and leapt to the side as more slivers began to tear up the machinery around him. Then his Cycler roared to life. Tobias usually was one for short controlled bursts, but as his lungs began to flood with blood and his vision blurred he decided on Spray and Prey. Then he was hit again, and again. Tobias went down, and though he thought he might be able to crawl or even get up again, he decided to lay there. It was a moment later that his assailant appeared, climbing clumsily down a ladder from the walk way above. He stumbled over to Tobias muttering something about queers. The man slung his gun over his shoulder and, drawing his knife, bent to finish the Job. Tobias took the opportunity to bring his Cycler back up, pointing it at his assailants face, and then he pulled the trigger. It was after he heard a number of clicks rattle off that he became aware of two things, one that the spray and pray tactic was indeed always useless, and two that he was screwed. Carl ------------------------------------------------------------- Carl could not help but laugh as the queer little man pointed his empty gun at him, and the shocked expression on the mans face when he did not kill Carl. Well, He would finish the poofter with his Gauss, and unslung the rifle to do just that. Carl was preparing to shoulder and fire when the pansy reached to his bracer and pressed several buttons then held his finger over a last one. "Wait!" the Man said. Carl shoulders his rifle, ignoring him. "Wait! If you shoot I will detonate the explosives in my pack, and we will both die." Carl took a moment to consider this. He really was not to keen on dieing, but he was pretty sure the purple man was lying. But if he wasn't that could be bad things for Carl. But he wanted those pain killers. "Gimme that med pouch queer boy, else I am gonna give you a new eye hole." Carl told the man. "I cant, if I move my hand you will shot me, and if I let you get close enough to take it you will push my hand away and shot me." the man explained. "I want that pouch, I wont shoot you, scouts honor" Carl lied. "Well, as you can see I am dieing, I don't think I will last more then a few more minutes, and if you are around when I start to go I am gonna blow myself, but if you let me die in peace you can come and take the pouch from my corpse." "How do I know you wont blow yourself up just to spite me, I did kill you after all." "I wont, you have my word as an officer" the man told him. "Ok, I will give you five minutes to die, then I am coming back for my pouch, got it? And if your not dead by then I am gonna shoot you, bomb or no." Carl told him. "I will be sure to die while you are gone." the man said. "You do that." Carl answered, and with that he backed off and then left, going only a little ways around the corner to wait. Tobias ------------------------------------------------------------- Tobias watched the New Conglomerate solider round the corner and quickly moved to his medical pouch and began to treat his wounds. He could hardly believe his bluff had worked. But one does not question luck. It took Tobias about four minutes to stabilize himself to the point where he would not die, then, with quite a bit of pain, Tobby limped over to one of the half completed lightnings and crawled inside to continue his treatment. It was about a minute later that he heard the New Conglomerate troop enter the room, and after seeing Tobias had vanished the solider went in to a screaming fit about not being able to trust queers further then you could throw them, and not even that far as some of them were quite small. Mixed into this was such an assortment of four letter words that Tobias's vocabulary of such words expanded quite a bit. After the man had run of breath from his swearing and thrown or broken everything in the room he could he seemed to move on. Tobias used a small mirror from one of his pouches to survey the area outside, and assuring himself that the man was gone, finished his medical treatments of himself and then lay back to take a few minutes to rest. His eyes closed, and with the drowsiness from loss of blood and the meds, much against his will Tobias was soon sleeping silently as a baby. |
