SOE has said they plan to release PS2 THIS year.
We're just days away from month 8  I imagine the beta will be ongoing, and despite my first post in this thread, I do believe invites will be akin to the tech test invites where they're only 2-3 days apart if that long. For the most part, that plan is probably to stem the cluster-**** of everyone downloading and logging in at once. Release day scenarios almost never go well for MMO's and Planetside likely wouldn't have been an exception.
