Isn't there a Terry Pratchett book with that in it? Million to one shots happen 9 times out of 10 if:
You're the lovechild of a king and a scullery maid.
You don't know you're the heir to the throne.
You have no training with bows and arrows.
You're the last line of defence.
Somebody nearby says "He'll never do it"
