Future events: recommendations, suggestions, discussion
In order to do this right, we first need to give the people running the events certain abilities. A) Small donut - Reset control of territories, players who don't own that territory should be automatically redeployed to an appropriate facility. In the small donut, a base in the centre of the map with three satellite bases is setup so that the three sub bases are each owned by 1 of the empires, with the facility itself neutral. The surrounding territories are also empire reset as appropriate. B) Large donut - Several of the central territories are set to neutral, any player in that area is forced to redeploy so they can't just instantly recap the empty territory. Each empire gets two bases, one of those must be a tech plant (except for esamir, I guess you'll need the manager ability to be tailored for each continent). C) Territory wipe - All territories are cleared of ownership, all players are auto re-deployed to their warpgate. In territory wipe, we should probably also max everyone's resource reserves so attrition doesn't give an empire undue advantage. By forcing re-deploys, we won't have a situation where an empire already owns a base in a hack & hold contest, or some other potentially exploitative behaviour. ---------------------------------------- Challenges for players Hack and hold - The small donut GM ability is activated. The players must fight over the base (Let's not do a hack and hold on a base like the bastion, 2000 players on one hex is a bit much). The base where the small donut is centered is now fought over by the players. Whoever owns the base at the end of the count down wins. Territory Control - Territory wipe is activated, whichever empire holds the most territories at end of countdown wins. Base Control - Territory wipe is activated, whichever empire holds the most territories at the end of the countdown wins. Delivery To Centre - Large donut is activated (Hmm, or territory wipe). Each empire is given a dev owned sunderer, that sunderer must deploy in the central facility. First one to do it (or last dev-sunderer to be survive) wins, players must escort the sunderer or try to destroy the other empires ones. Possibility for blockades and air squads rife here. Delivery to Warpgate - Large donut is activated (or territory wipe) A special thingy is dropped in the centre of the world, functionally like a Planetside 1 LLU. There is only one and players must fight to get it into their warpgate. Flag Hold - Large donut - The LLU style item mentioned above does not need to be delivered to a warpgate, instead your empire simply needs to be holding onto it at the end of the countdown. You cannot take it into a warpgate, this causes it to reset to the central territory. If anyone has additional ideas here's a good time to do it. I'm not sure how you could do something that's like, squad vs squad vs squad that doesn't involve other players 'interfering' without a special area that GM's can summon you to... and anyway this would distract from Planetside 2's strengths and probably shouldn't be a focus anyway. Could possibly have a system for tracking an equivalent of 'tickets'/'lives' in a territory, with a challenge for people to survive or die the least times in a given territory or continent... With an exception for people killed by a 100% teamkill (Where an ally does 100% of the damage to you). Additional thought: The LLU thing cannot be carried through spawn shields. For obvious reasons. If you've made it all the way to the end, thanks for reading. (Thanks for reading even if you didn't get all the way through it) Last edited by Larington; 2013-01-26 at 04:03 PM. |
