I actually do bette on ground combat (and that is saying alot, I liv ein the air playing BF1942) but I love flying.... Which leads me to a fear...

Will there be too many pilots?

There might be quite a few at first but I think the same will go for snipers. When they figure out that it's not the right thing for them they'll switch over to something like covert ops or just ground troops or something. Don't think you need to worry that much.

not once they find out that you can't capture bases and get BEP just flying around.

there will be a good bit of pilots, i'd bet, especially at the beginning. but i think it will die down. i plan to get some air certs so i can play around, but just for when i'm having some fun
