Next to the respawn tubes in most bases is a medical/locker room, upstairs is a lounge. In that lounge is a TV/screen thingy, but all it does is show a rotating view of that empire's symbol! What I suggest is having 3 TVs, one can be turned to the news, the others could be linked to cameras that could be placed at different areas around the base. The TVs could have the channel change and stuff if the player wants it, but it's the same screen for everyone, so if you keep watching the news when people are trying to have a conference for defense, people will get PO'ed at you. In the lounge, all people can speak through the microphones, so a meeting to prepare a defense is possible. One member, the squad leader in the base could get a little laser pointer thing to indicate things on the screen. Kinda like a long range REK, but it doesn't hack, but lights whenever you pull the trigger. In the vehicles, an audio of the news or a radio could be set up to organize an attack in mid-battle.

This would give the lounge a real use, otherwise it's just there as cosmetics, a little thing to give life to the base. As for the cameras and stuff, somebody could stick a camera on their wraith or mosquito and we'd see everything the driver saw. Recon would have a really useflu ability, they could provide a direct video feedback to the base that they're near, giving an accurate look at what was in the area. There's a huge tactical difference between your scout saying "there's an enemy force headed your way" and a video that shows 3 magriders, a sunderer, two reavers and some flanking MAXes.

Sadly this is one of those things that the technology curve just wont go for. I remember years ago when tribes came out wanting someone to do a planetsiege style game but finding the technology just wnsnt there, look where we are now.

Another one of those ideas that sounds great on paper but would suck (and lag like hell) in real life.
