each sides different categories of weapons should be equal in power, but different in style. by equal in power and different in style i mean the heavy weapons or whathaveyou weapons, lets take the CG and jackhammer, should deal the same amount of damage over the same amount of time. say the JH fires 8 rounds/pellets with each shotgun burst and the CG fires 4 rounds per second. then the jackhammer should have to reload every 2 seconds, assuming each bullet does the same damage. that way, over 10 seconds, the CG and JH have both fired 40 bullets and dealt the same damage, but in a unique way.
When you start making one side's class worse or better, that cant be balanced out through making a different class better. that is what causes people to all start using the same gun. it also may deprive them of a certain type of gameplay that they like but they happened to pick the wrong empire that sucks at anti vehicular or whatver. each class in each empire should have approximately the same damage ratio, adjusting individual weapons slightly to take into account CoF and intended usage and range and stuff. the main difference in the weapons should be HOW they fire and the STYLE in which each empire gets the job done. another example. i think the prowlers chassis and slowness should be attatched to the Vanguard's 150 MM cannon and given to the NC. they have a big slow vehicl that reloads slowly but packs a punch. the TR on the other hand should have the vanguard chassis with the double 75's. a slightly faster, more rapid fire type thing. anyways i hope you read that, it was kind of long sorry but i felt it needed to be said. i am not whining bout anything, i actually have always had fun playing this game no matter what i am doing, be it trying to navigate an ANT across the entire continent of Searhus past many bases to get those vital NTUs to a base we are hacking or storming a base with double chainguns blazing (i switch between the two ;D). i just think some things are a little... out of character for each empire. nothing more nothing less |

Well, a weapon that deals say 200 damage in 4 seconds and takes another 4 seconds to reload is alot better than a weapon that deals 200 damage in 6 seconds and takes 2 seconds to reload. Mainly because, with the first weapon, the target will be dead before you even need to reload. This is generally the case with the jackhammer vs chaingun scenario.

I've played the jackhammer, and it does own any non-max grunt in a small area BUT it blows chunks at ranges over a few meters, so please don't tell me the chaingun doesn't have a shot at winning. I mean, you wouldn't (by comparision) use a thumper from 5 feet away, so why close the distance between you and a JH user? You're just fighting the guy in his strength, not yours. Cyclers and chainguns are meant for a bit better range than jacks. Use your strength.
I've also gone after folks with jackhammers while playing other empires...my personal preference out of all the heavy class is the lasher, frankly. I don't think the idea about making ROF and reload times equivalent holds water unless you are also talking about increasing the ranges of the jackhammer to those of a chaingun or cycler.

And Hawkeye, for the love of God stop with that stupid response. "It's an automatic shotty, of course it's going to own you." Well, it's a freaking mini chain gun that burps out rounds at an obscene pace. It certainly seems logically like that would own also. They're changing the other HA for a reason whether or not the NC care for the level playing field idea. |

Jesus Christ, Hawkeye!
Quit your shit with that lame ass, old reasoning of "the jackhammer is a f***ing automatic SHOTGUN with Three barrels, it is gonna own ur ass." Come up with something new!!!! All the other posts were legitimate in their reasoning and you have to ruin it with that stupid line!!!! |

VrBojangles is kinda right. Each empire has their strengths and weaknesses. It's just a matter of putting it all together using what youre empire has to get the job done. You definately have to take a different approach to depending on what empire you play.
But there are some "standard" things all empires can do. For example, Air Superiority. At least on TR/Emerald we just don't have the air power that we should have. I tried to assist the cause, but found out that I can't hit Sunderer at 10m with a Reaver so its best I don't burn any more base NTUs trying to fly one. An empire needs use their strengths, but not get lost in the focus to keep the "standards" up to par as well. I think one of TR's most potent units is the MAX Pounder. I'd love to see more of them. But we can't win with just pounders. We need air power, artillery power via our tanks, supply power via AMS/ANTs, mobility power via Sunderers, Delivers, and Gals. You need it all. |

but the jh is sorta like a max..... when you are up against it you think "hell no" but when you actually play as one you find out there are some SERIOUS downsides...

Additionally, The Minichaingun is a heavy automatic weapon that saw a LOT of use in emplacements in WWII, (I know they wern't chainguns, chainguns are an inprovement, but still) and I'm willing to bet heavy automatic weapons have more confirmed combat kills then any shotgun.
