The Best Assaulting Weapon for NC

I am new to planetside, has been promoted to BR6 yesterday. And i intend to be a good infantry, but i found something not as good as i imagined.

After i got my heavy assault cert, i found NC can only get a shotgun in that pool. Compare to TR's Mini-Chain, and VS's Lasher, i think the shotgun pretty poor for our NC. I can kill nobody beyond 20m with it.

So, this is my question, what weapon should i use to do the assaulting? Punisher? it's so inaccurate. What else can i use?

How bout the gauss? lol if you have reinforced gauss + jackhammer

If the target comes close enough switch to jackhammer and surge to him and rape him... simple isnt it?

Gauss and Jackhammer for assault.

If you really don't like the Jackhammer because you think its not very good, try assaulting a tower and putting some rounds into TR/VS with it, then try any other weapon, excluding the Rocklet perhaps. Hint: Get close.

Gauss is also a top notch weapon. I love that thing.

Actually i really like Jackhammer, and know it's power. I did most kills in the towers and the rooms. I didn't know the power of Gauss before.

What scared me is:

When a bounch of enemies attacking the tower's door, you can hardly stand close to the door under the heavy fire, the thing people usually do is standing on the upper stairs or lower one then shot enemies get into the door. VS and TR always use their Lasher or Chaingun to attack, i can hardly hit them from the upper stairs to the door. And they can easily hit me from that distance.

Another thing is, in outdoor area, it's still hard to aim somebody and shot him down in 5-6 shots...

is Gauss really that powerful?

Most useful assualt rifle = Pulsar. Period. For the ranges where you most often kill people, the pulsar does more damage than the Cycler, a whopping 1 - 2 less than a Gauss, and it's accuracy is damn near dead on. Most accurate run-gunning too.

Get Special Assault and grab a Thumper. The ability to blast people with plasma grenades on top of the ability to bounce those grenades around corners in secondary firing mode is great for assault. It takes some practice to lob grenades with accuracy and you'll need to check your fire when freindlies are in the way (well sometimes anyway ), but once you get the hang of it you'll find yourself packing one all the time.

As an infantryman you should get Special Assault at some point anyway. The Thumper, Rocklet and Decimator are useful in all sorts of situations and are very well balanced. More than worth every cert point you spend for them.

well if you want a pulsar then loot one, then put it in your locker, then loot another one,, I have a couple MCG's in my locker but I dont have the cert yet to use it, but they are there with ammo.

Heh why did you loot ammo for an MCG.... I uses basic gauss or punisher or amp ammo.

I think I was thinking of a different weapon, also have a Lancer in there, and something else I can not use that is also TR's, but right now can not think of what it is, what I hate about looting is just as I empty a few slots to make room the Pack disappears, and I destroyed my stuff, that is bad and nothing else to loot near by, or you start to loot and get shot while looting, in a panic I never close the window so i can move outta there.

I love the gauss, but it has this hughmungus cone, of any game I have played that has a gauss in it, it has been known for its power and distance and accuracy, but this one (PS) just power, and distance and only 1 outta 6 hits were your aiming at a distance, I think the Gauss does a better job up close then a sweeper shotty, I just hate the cone for it (Gauss)

The cone is misleading. Unless you are jamming your fire button down until reload, you will find most of your shots will hit their target. Try 3 round bursts for Gauss sniping. It's actually very effective.

I'm a CE and everyone here ought to know that if you get GE right off you have to live with the CP weopons, thoughs suck. as soon as I could I got my gauss and have not died from enemy infantry fire to this date. (I hate reavers). I think the best combo of certs for a CE is CE+SA+(either HA or Gauss[depending on whether your NC or not]). I got SA yesterday and plan on getting reinf armor soon.

Sorry, the Pulser doesnt hold a candle to the Cycler as far as overall effectivness. The Cycler is hands down the best Medium Assault weapon in the game. The Gauss is pretty good but you kind of lose the medium range gap, but it rules at long range. So go either long range on the gauss or get into jackhammer range. The pulsar is great at medium to close ranges but you can go heavy assault with a Lasher at that range so whats the point?

I don't think enough credit is given to the Sweeper shotgun. That is by far my favorite weapon in the game. Well, that ans the gauss. I wouldn't trade either of those weapons for anything.

Don't know how many tell I get calling me a noob for using that overpowered shotgun...dude, its a sweeper, you can use one too.
