well, thanks for opening this thread, i'm totally new to planetside, as in i haven't even bought it yet, buy i'm extremly interested in it.
but alot of sites don't really offer too much information on some things. so i thought i'd ask you guys, you seem very intellectual. i was wondering.. what exactly are the minimum requirements to play this game? what's the recommend system requirements to play PS without lag? the payment system, it's only through credit card? is it in american dollars? is it really worth the trouble? can someone recommend a good enough pc to play Ps that's under 800$? thanks for your time, i appreciate it. |

well. the minimum requirements are a 1ghz processor, 256 mb of ram and a 64mb ram video card.
Sony recommends a 1.8 ghz processor and a geforce 4 class card with 128 mb of RAM and 512 mb system ram. But, dont pay attention to those requirements, especially the minimum. your game will run soooo slow with the minimum requirements. IT will run slow even with the recommended requirements. it will run slow even if you have the recommended requirements doubled. The game engine is really really crappy and you will never get good framerate in the big battles. I recommend at least 600mb DDR ram, a pretty decent video card (at least a Radeon 9600 pro or up/Geforce FX 5600 or up) A cable modem, and a 1.5 ghz processor. Even then, in the big battles, you will get low FPS you can pay with credit card or game card. US dolllars Dont buy a whole new PC just for this game. you will be REALLY disapointed on how terrible the game runs even on a great computer. |

well, if your gonna get a new computer anyway, you can get a decent one for under 800 bux. and i think it is worth it, cause i love PS. i think, it rocks, and frankly, my lag and fps arent that bad. if you want hit me up on AIM or email [email protected] and i will customize a computer for u under 800 that can run PS well.

The most important requirement to have as much of a "lag free" game possible is MEMORY!!!
This thing eats memory for breakfast, lunch and dinner!!! It takes about 500-700 megs total just to run decently at minimal graphic settings (which still aren't that bad really), meaning if you have 512megs and a 256meg swap file, you are covered... But that still means you are swapping about 256 megs of information, which means when you get up to new areas, your computer will seem to lag, but it is actually your system loading in new data. If you have a 1.2mhz at least, a gig of ram, and at least a 32meg video card, you should be able to play okay. That would be minimum though to have an enjoyable time. Internet lag has not really been a problem for me, not even in the bigger battles, it is mainly having so many things going on on the screen at the same time, it really tasks the system to keep up with the rest of the game world. The 2nd most important factor is how you set your viewing distance. If you set it about 1/4 or 1/3 up the bar you will see a fair distance but it will look a bit foggy (but it plays better). If you jack the distance way out there, you will see more, but the game turns into a slideshow sometimes... It actually all seems a bit smoother than before though lately so maybe they are working on those issues behind the scenes? yup, i got 1 gb ddr333. i loooove it. i have my didstance jacked all the way up, and boy is it awesome. also, when you install PS, it uses the system to create sounds. if u change it, so that you make the sound card produce them, then your game will run faster too.

I got mine for $198, I have Windows 98 already and installed that on this new system. Added 512mb ram for $48 off of Half.com, got a GeForce2 MX 400 / 32mb video card for $35 off of Ebay.com...
So with mine, we are looking at less than $300... P1.2 Duron 640mb PC133 40 Gig HD GeForce2 MX 400 / 32mb Like I'm saying, it isn't a "World Beater" system, but it is pretty decent for pretty cheap... and it can play Planetside too... It isn't my main system, just one of my satellite computers I have set up on my network at home (have 4 computers total). |
