I just played it, and I found it annoying that the controls reset every time you would change the map. I am unimpressed by some of this things, one being the fact that there is no reloading, or numerical ammunition display. Also the mouse controll felt very unresponsive. I found that the articiafting can be removed if you deselect the "bloom" option in the video menu, or turn your texture samples down to 1x. I am also annoyed by the lack of cool inventory. They changed way too many things that were good in DX1, and made them worse. Also, what happened to the option of entering a login/password instead of just automatically hacking a computer. It really detracts from the feeling of accomplishment. The graphics got better, but the game certainly did not. I liked the dynamic of the old DX, and they should have kept it.

I too, was seriously dissapointed. For the amount of time put into this game, and the stuff I had read, there's really very little to show for it. The engine looks powerful, but poorly pieces together and not refined, even at the highest resolutions. I'm quite dissapointed as this game was going to be up there with HL2 and D3 for me. Guess not.

The radial interface is a step backwards. This is for console fans. I am particularily annoyed at it going back to default controls every time you load, or go to another level. The transfer of items back and forth from the toolbelt is cumbersome and tedious.
STORYLINE! We have no idea what the fuck happened. It's been 15 years, and something called 'the collapse' occured. That's it. Hacking was prevously a challenge. Now you walk up to whatever the fuck you want and right click. They just don't die! It takes like five shots to the face to kill a baddie. Even with a flamethrower, it takes forever for them to die. I can't run above 800x600 without getting bad FPS, but my computer is getting old (512 RAM, GF3). The lack of reloading, I think, will be explained. I think ammo is extracted directly from clips. Or something. Also notable is that the ammunition is generic. A pack will fire with a shotgun or a flamethrower with equal ease. And Alex looks like a whimp. Give me my Boondock Saints haircut with a trenchcoat, please. There are some good things. First of all, I like how it automatically goes to your multitool when you select a locked door. The effects are, in general, cooler. However, they aren't amazing. The gun models are much better than the old ones. This demo is a bad omen.

The gun katas. Through analysis of thousands of recorded gunfights, the Cleric has determined that the geometric distribution of antagonists in any gun battle is a statistically predictable element. The gun kata treats the gun as a total weapon, each fluid position representing a maximum kill zone, inflicting maximum damage on the maximum number of opponents while keeping the defender clear of the statistically traditional trajectories of return fire. By the rote mastery of this art, your firing efficiency will rise by no less than 120%. The difference of a 63% increase to lethal proficiency makes the master of the gun katas an adversary not to be taken lightly. |

The fact that the game was made for the Xbox also, (thereby degrading the quality) makes me want to go find the creators of the Xbox and shoot them in the fucking face. The fact the interfaces are now almost completely lacking in usefu, mouse control just goes to show what consoles can do to games that should be good.

The technical issues are serious and the devs have said they'll be shaken out for the full version.
go to www.ionstrom.com/forums and find the appliacable section. There's a thread for tweaks to your demo for Trilinear shading, vertex lighting, smaller font, and more realistic headshots. Unified Ammo system: Dosen't really bother me, so I'll reserve judgement. Would have liked reloading though. Storyline: It's just a demo. The story will be huge in the full game, take heart.
