Help, PSU!

Help, PSU!

Alright. Earlier, I was hooking up my X-Box so I could play Pandora Tomarrow. I have no hub or router, so I have to manually connect my Cable modem to my X-Box to play it. Afterwards, I was having some problems getting my cable modem to register with the computer, so I had to reboot several times (The Proper way; using the start menu).

Now I***8217;m getting huge errors because after I log into my master account, my computer hard-reboots. Being an idiot, I let it go several times hoping the situation would correct itself. I believe I***8217;ve lost huge amounts of files. I***8217;m getting multiple errors for corrupted files when it first boots, and I have no idea what to do. I***8217;ve checked for pinched wires, bad cable connections, and a problem at the power outlet itself. What I haven***8217;t done is checked for software errors, because A, I didn***8217;t change any software when I changed the cable connection, and B, because I don***8217;t have time between login and hard reboot.

Mods***8230; please don***8217;t move this unless totally necessary. I realize this is a tech forum problem, but my Friday and Saturday evenings are effectively toast since the girlfriend can***8217;t go out. Please, anyone have any ideas?

Do a system recovery. It should be in control panel, systems. Then just pick the most recent date. It basically replace the core system files with ones saved from which ever day you picked.

I can try to do the system recovery, but like I said, I have limited time before the system hard reboots. I'm thinking 30 seconds, 20-25 taken up by that "bootup lag" where you can't do anything.

Yeah, some Mars aid would be good.

I have had the same problem, do safemode, if that doesn't work, do prompt mode. From my experiences, it hard-reboots because of explorer loading, when you do prompt mode, it stops explorer from loading, then you can ctrl-alt-delete and use the run command to run system recovery.

Alright, how do I safe boot? And assuming I've never manually backed up the system, how far back will this take me?

A couple of days. System Recovery usually updates every time something in your registery changes so it should fairly recent.

No luck guys. The safe mode boot up never even makes it to the login screen, it simply stops while going over the core files it's loading. I also can't find the system recovery utility, even in the system files area.

right when you get into windows, go to start->run and type in "cmd" without quotes of course. Then type "chkdsk C: /f" or G: or whatever you drive letter is. First it will ask if you want to dismount the drive to fix errors, choose no. Then it will say something about the drive in use and if you want to schedule a check on bootup. Choose yes and then reboot. That should take care of corrupt files.

Situation resolved. Turns out that my modem was linked to a core file somewhere, when I disabled it (Totally forgot I did), I guess the file got fucked up and the comp rebooted. Thankfully, that replicator fixed almost all the problems. It's pretty cool that XP can repair itself, to a degree.

Thanks for the help, everybody. Feel free to move/delete/lock, mods.
