Because this is an FPS, and it's about skill, I thought it could be nice to have a couple of very hard to control veichles that have potential to do massive damage. weapons that are about as hard to pilot as the choppers in BF42: Desert combat for example. make that for example a heavy bomber and let it drop mini nukes the size of orbital strikes, with serious payload an ROF downsides that will effectively allow one bomb per pass if you survive that long. just an example, not a terribly good one.
the idea however is that you cant just cert it for X points. you can use it only if you passed a very long and hard training level. for example make people have to fly through an obstacle course and drop the bomb in a rather small circle quite far below them, all this timed of course. limit the tests to BR12 or above. that way you will only get highly skilled drivers/pilots in the uber weapons, and it won't be like the reaver spam. please ignore the specific example I gave and try to look at the training idea. |

No dice, I suppose you COULD make it CR 4-5 only instead of orbital strikes. But what would then be the difference? It would be a waste of time to replace this with something extremely similar when I would rather see time and effort being put into new and unique ideas.

would you people please ignore the nuke bomber? it's not the point of this post.
I thought up an even better idea. in the BR leveling thing, each BR takes more XP to advance, so I suggest you make the ladder "start" at BR4 for those numbers, meaning to get BR2 you need what you needed to get BR3 before. no supposedly this would make BR's harder to get, but not if you do 3 training missions, each giving you a free BR, not affecting your XP advancement. this way, instead of going to the online training and equiping all weapons, entering all veichles and learning nothing, you will do the training and actually learn to use the veichles and weapons. remove the 100 XP you get from equiping any weapons and gunning/driving spots. instead create the following 3 levels, that should take around 10 minutes each: -shooting range, you have to get a 50% hit ratio and miss a few friendly dummies running around. in weapons with clips every reload the accuracy counter is reset, in one shot weapons you need 2 consecutive hits. I doubt the striker for example needs this, but I'm sure the JH does. -driving range. navigate a tank through a field with friendly dummies running around and then drive back in a buggie. if you earn too much grief you fail -veichle shooting range. line up all the veichles, make them stationary and let the trainee have his fun like the infantry shooting range. of course, when you create a new char, add to the "get ranks in training" along with the "go to sanc" and "go to instant action" options. so, what do you think?

On the subject of training, America's Army has a pretty cool system whereby to use certain weapons and play on certain maps you need to have passed basic, and then special training. To be a sniper, you have to qualify as a marksman in basic training and then pass sniper school. Medics have to go through a full first aid course, exam and "field training" to be able to request the medic class.
If they employed this in planetside I think it would be met with glee from people like myself who think such an idea would be great, and sets itself up nicely for a persistant world, but I think you'd get a lot of people who would argue that you should be able to just jump into Planetside. |

planetside takes too long to jump into anyway. that's why I suggested making it give you BR instead of the certs themselves.
AA does have a nice system, but it revolves too much on knowledge and not enough on skill. sniper and airborn are the only ones that actually require skill. the first SF test is just boring and I didn't do the second cause bacchus (some guy with access to accounts) gave me 4 honor points and full training when he restored my lost account.
