Also what do you do in this game? The concept of flying around a city seems intriguing to say the least, but what do you spend your time doing? And what makes it different from any other MMORPG?

Different than other MMOs...NO not really. Only the concept itself is really different. You choose an archetype (class), choose from a selection of powers that arch can have, choose your appearance (GREAT generator for this) and hit the streets doing missions and fighting mobs.

Archetypes:
Blaster - These guys deal out damage at range
Defenders - Lesser blasters with healing abilities
Scrappers - These deal out the damage in melee
Tankers - They take a crap load of damage and smile
Controllers - They can Mez and Heal
