I am not too worried about the success of this game. I am sure that there is a sizable portion of the MMOG market who is craving skill based PvP.

guys listen, say what ever you want but the point is this type of game is arguably the most popoular on the market. Fps are booming right now battle field 1942,mohha,anarchy online, the list goes on and on.The point is a crap load of other games due out at roughly the same time as PS have a ton more advertising, and there in beta right now too. Media = money/players. Right now The name planetside needs to be murmmerd throughout fps servers everywhere.

Its not just a FPS game though. It is also a persistant state world. The only other games that I can think of that are along these lines are Endless Ages and Neocron.
As a whole this genre hasn't been taken seriously. I would even venture to guess that there will be some FPS players who will be dissapointed because of subscription fees and no "instant action" unless you run around to go find it. PS does look like it puts more FPS into it then the other ones out there, which will be its biggest advantage. |

Do you mean like nintendo did with mario sunshine (release crap sell well on name)? Don't ever expect a mario game to sell that well again, they shot themselves in the foot (nintendo), and have killed their best franchise.

Hamma thats a good point but theres a crap load of people playing americas army and thats pretty strategic i think, maybe not as startegic as this but still not unreal or cs. I think people are going to like running around in a city or base and being a part of something big, not like B1942where your suposedly in this huge war and theres really like 5 planes 2 tanks and 6 infantry running around.

2 Luigi's Mansion did not have the name "Mario" in it so people don't think of it as a "Mario" game 3 Luigi's Mansion did not offer a much MUCH worse version of a previos game with numeous design errors [can't tell what to do...] (IE Mario 64 was a much better design, and total implemtation) |
