How will u notice when someone hits u?
=========================================
U will of course hear somekind of noice, but will the screen shake a little bit, because it would help u very much if lots of people are fighting close and u will notice that it's u who has received the damage and not another one. U don't always look at the health bar and u will be able to react quickly when someone starts to damage u and in this game u will die pretty quickly. It would make everything more excitement and interresting. The screen will only shake very little but enough to make u react and only when someone hits u the first time and when u receive greater damage.
... and yeah, the game is close to release, I know. Only an idea I came up with to increase the excitement of this awesome game.

You won't have a problem, Grozzo. Chambered is correct - the screen turns red and you will see the directional indicator so you can return fire or run a different direction. The dialog box will tell you who is hitting you.

I personally take issue with the last line of Sporks reply...

The dialog box will tell you who is hitting you.
You can see this in the screenshots, and it just looks dumb. Not only is it useless, it completely reeks of MMORPGs. You have a health bar to tell how much health you are loosing. Who wants your dialogue box all cluttered up with "PrivateMonkey hits you for 10 points of damage" ? It just looks weak. Check out the screenshots to see what I'm talking about.

I like that feature myself. Though a toggle option would be cool to help cut down clutter.

What quiet said, I like putting names to my enemies, and you will get to know some quite well. Hell, you will sometimes have a grudge match.

And that whole OMG MMORPG BS, remember, this IS part MMORPG, keep it in mind.

There is an option to turn off the Info that tells you how much you are being hit for.

I like the feature, but what use is it if you can't see the other opposing factions names and health bars? The only way I could see it as being useful is if you want to take revenge on the person that just killed you, but you don't know which one he is. Unless you use a cert of course.

I'll have advanced targetting and a scope, and if any enemy earns a special place in my , and I see him on the battlefield, I will make sure to kamikazi right on top of him. Feel the love!

Not sure whether to bow or not

Are you a dev, or do you just enjoy speaking with authority?

I tend to agree with PM here also, I really dont think such a menu/messages are neccicary for an FPS.

Hopefully its toggleable

I agree Hamma, not necessary for an FPS.

Planetside is not an FPS, its an MMOFPS - an imalgamation (sp?) of the MMORPG and FPS genres with a smackering of RTS too.

Its primarily an MMO game. And therefore should be treated as different from your run of the mill FPS.

Some people would like to know exactly how much the 1337 rocket of 1337n3ss is going to hurt someone for...

thats why it should be toggleable, along with all other chat messages.

Everything should be toggleable. Even the option to use armor or just run around nekkid.

I believe running around in Standard armor is considered nekkid
