Updated Adobe Reader, now I boot slowly

So last night, I opened a pdf file and adobe reader told me I had two updates to install. I had nothing better to do, so I installed them. Now, ever since, my computer boots differently. It'll boot about halfway... meaning about half of my startup items will boot up, but then it sort of hangs. Nothing really happens for about 30 seconds and then everything else boots up just fine.

What's up here? I've opened taskmanager during boot up and everything looks fine, there's nothing hanging or taking up massive amounts of resources (that I can see.) I checked the registry and saw what was starting up. Adobe Reader was there, so I unchecked that, but that didn't seem to solve the problem.

Any ideas? What can I do to see what's going on?

It's probably just Adobe, it has a reputation for being slow. That stuff I edited out was posted in haste, maybe not the answer to your problems.

But here's the link again anyway: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/foxitreader/

Re: Updated Adobe Reader, now I boot slowly

So I broke down and used System Restore. The boot immediately afer the restore was normal, everything was working. But I wanted to make sure it was all ok, so I restarted to see if it was fixed. It wasn't.

So, I undid the restore and the boot immediately following that was also normal, just like it used to be. So I restarted to check, and, of course, it still wasn't working right.

Any ideas?

It puts adobe speed launch in the startup group, seen it do this before on my work machine and some others.

Edit: also remove un-needed plugins and it speeds it up greatly:

Well that's the thing. By now, I have completely uninstalled adobe reader and it still boots up slowly. Also, I'm not talking about adobe itself starting up, I'm talking about my boot up into windows.

Another 'Also'... Adobe isn't/wasn't present in my Startup group

I reinstalled Adobe, moved all those files to the optional folder and deleted the startup group file. Restarted... it seems to work now. We'll see if it holds up.

Re: Updated Adobe Reader, now I boot slowly

So, the problem has returned. I have absolutely no idea what to do now.

Adobe 7.0.8 is fully installed, plugins are in the optional folder, there is absolutely NOTHING (I can see) that should be booting up from adobe. Is this no longer a problem with adobe? Anyone have ANY ideas?

(Something to describe the problem... I'll login, it'll show my desktop and the taskbar. My Antivirus software loads (but does not enable.. it stays disabled until after the long pause), and a program called HDDHealth loads. Then my system seems to just sit there doing nothing for about 30 seconds. After these 30 seconds, the computer continues to boot just like normal. DURING the pause, I went to Start>Run>and typed msconfig. But.. the typing was severely delayed. I typed 'msconfig' on the keyboard and it appeared in the run box, one letter at a time, starting about 10 seconds later. That's the kind of hang we're talking about.)

C'mon fellow geeks... let's figure this out.

You are SURE you removed adobe speed launch? I have seen this issue a bunch of times. Otherwise I am unsure what would be causing it

startup folder has nothing but trillian in it, msconfig shows nothing I don't want to be there.
