Twist posted a very long (and amusing) thread regarding the lasher in its current state.
Based on issues people have been discussing here, I have spent the last several days playing NC and TR exclusively against VS, trying for the best mix of combat situations I could find.
I still haven't played *as* VS lately, using the Lasher, but I need to. It's an important step to getting a feel for the total balance.
The lasher is definitely a lethal weapon. The heart of the question is whether it is more lethal (in more circumstances, this is a key point) than weapons available for the same cost in certs to other sides.
I am not a particularly gifted Planetside player - I'm not a n00b, just not a top ten player. Based on my notes, under both TR and NC I was able to get better than 1:1 kill ratios against Lashers while on defense (sensible), and close to 1:1 but slightly worse on offense. I discounted the many times I was killed while contemplating my navel or other struck by the n00bness deaths I had. You could have given those guys a wet noodle and they would have killed me, so it wasn't the lashers fault.
If I have a concern right now, it's that the lasher may have too much effectiveness in too many roles. Still not convinced on that, but it would seem (again I have NOT PLAYED VS EXTENSIVELY with the new lasher yet) to be a better distance weapon than the JH or MCG. It's definitely strong up close, but the JH completely rips it when used correctly - I was downing 3 VS to my 1 death with no healing in close quarters.
The maximum effectiveness of the HA weapons should be concentrated in a particular range setting. If any changes are coming to the lasher (or preferably upgrades to other weapons, as nerfing is teh suk) it will be because of an imbalance related to it's use in different distance situations. I don't think the lethality in any *particular* circumstance is broken. But as a combination of circumstances it might be. And now, a level headed and well reasoned thread ensues argued passionately but with reserve pro or con on this subject.
Great to see the dev's getting more involved in the OF. Check out the original thread
