Exclamation A New Idea for Bases

I just came up with this concept today as we were fighting in Hossin and it made me think, how can we make this better? How can we make the attacking and defending of bases better?

Well, what all bases had massive gates or shields(like they have at times, except they keep out everything) protecting it's entrances and the walls were destructible. I know destructible terrain is not really likely, but it fits the fluff so well, since the whole nanite thing on Auraxis would constantly repair stuff. There would still be a Back door of course, so a dedicated enemy could try to charge the back door, but it is a choke point, so it's extremely hard against a entrenched defender. But the main way would be to try to get past a wall or the game

To get past a wall or gate, there are 3 ways. One is with lots and lots of firepower, tanks, reavers, missile launchers, etc... however, the wall has the ability to be repaired from the other side by glue guns, so it is extremely hard.

The 2nd way is mossie jumpers or what was said in another thread, Agile jumpers bypassing the walls and attempting to unlock the gates at these special terminals near the gates. These would open them for tanks and infantry to assault with.

The 3rd way is a new vehicle, a heavily armored breaching drill. You bring it up to a wall and it destroys to quickly for anyone to repair it. However, it needs to be supported as it is slow and can be killed by AV infantry on the walls unless they are suppressed by the support.

Okay, I know this is not perfect, but tell me what you think.

I want the Sunderer(or equivalent) to have BF2142 style pod launchers.

I think a destructable gate would be a good addition to the game. I can imagine rustling up a group of people to hit the gate heavy, or defending a base and people start shouting that they are taking the gate down and 'defend the gate!' It would add some surprise to what can sometimes become a monotonous battle during big defensives.

I've suggested destructible entrance points before, but not for the cy. I think the cy is perfect. It just becomes a pain trying to enter a single base when an entire empire is packed inside it.

Nice idea to bring it across.

Makes the Sunderer more of a strategic asset.

I think there should 2 or 3 towers around the soi that by capturing them has an effect upon the base they are linked to.

Say its an interlink facility , cap one tower and it removes the main gate shield allowing entry into the courtyard . Cap a 2nd tower , and it reduces the hack time needed on doors and terminals . Cap all 3 towers and it reduces the soi radar effect of the base by 50%.

It would make fighting a base and indeed defending it spread out more over the area . If people just turtle up inside a base , they could still do that . But this way it encourages a more aggressive defense. Do you sit at the back door , or spawn at another base and try to recap a tower to get your full interlink back . Or be really organised and cap all 3 towers and trap the attackers in the courtyard .

Well, in the present "flog endless planes dropping HA" scene, you would need a destructible roof over the CY. One that instantly gibbed anyone who dropped from a plane.

If they put gates in, I want to be able to cert in battering ram. I'd like to equip a squad with one of those indestructible trees and just have at the gate!

Seriously though, I like TRex's idea. Towers of death were one of my favorite parts of the game and his idea sounds like it would create plenty of those

On destructible structures and vehicles, I would really like to see Siege vehicles come in to play. Or some kind of vehicles designed for a specific assault. It can really encourage some coordination in the vehicle game.

Like an LLU convoy on steroids

Wow, I love some of the ideas that showed up.

I can really see the Sunderer Drop Pod thing if Gates were put in. Park an AMS next a Sunderer Drop Pod thing and you could see a steady stream of attackers even with a Gate blocking the way.

To add to the drill/battering ram idea, perhaps it could be like some sort of assaulting tool. You drill a hole through the wall, and it's like a hole for troops to come through.

Using all of these tools, plus the towers inside bases that have the gate controls, infantry must open the gates to allow for the vehicles to support the assault on the control center.

Therefore, still easy if it's lightly defended, just go through the back door, but if it's heavily defended, it makes for a much more dynamic assault that has so many possibilities for both defenders and attackers.

Re: A New Idea for Bases

I like the idea, but I feel like it's ignoring the bigger problem: Base design.

Right now all bases follow the same boring template. I want to see bases that are built into the side of a cliff.

Or bases that are halfway over the water (think pathways like an oil rig) and halfway on land. Or heck, bases that are in the middle of the sea.

Or bases that have a very small above-ground building with the rest of the structure being entirely underground.

Or bases in a dam.

Or bases on the very top of a mountain.

Or bases that are carved into a giant piece of rock floating above a continent.

It's sci-fi. Anything is possible. Stop it with the boring bases! (Okay, well, keep them, but have interesting ones too)

I agree on the varying bases , you can keep the benefit types the same but I don't see why every biolab has to be a cookie cutter exactly the same design all the time.

Same goes for towers . My idea for towers ( and I meant having them similar distance from the base as we do now, not towers on the walls of the base) was to make it so that most of the area near, around and within the soi had activity going on for strategic goals . Not just so an NC can hack a tower in middle of nowhere and wait for some victim to come check it out and farm them. Well, they could still do that, but there would be more of a strategic importance for defenders and attackers to have them.

What if there was guard towers on the corners of bases on the outer wall( nice sniping platforms btw) and there were zip-lines (like in the caves)to a friendly owned tower if it was near enough. Hacking the tower by an enemy would remove the zip-line. So, would you hack the tower to bring down the shield at the base door , or just use the zip line to enter the base via the base tower? Would add a whole new level of depth to attacking and defending . Along with varying base design.

It also gives outfits large and small a place to flourish or specialise .
