calling in airstrikes
I kind of got inspired from the scene from "we were soldiers" where they call broken arrow. anyway I saw that there already was another thread about the same thing ( http://www.planetside-universe.com/f...ht=air+support ) but I felt that I could include some more things. anyway, my Idea is based on a skilltree for squad/platoon/etc. leaders. basicly the deeper you go into that skilltree the more access you will have to air support. the skill will give you the ability to create airstrike missions and you get access to a tool for marking the airstrikes eg. a lazer pointer or some kind of signal beacon that shows targets for the pilots. at the early stages a sq leader gets the power to mark one or a few targets which creates a mission to all pilots within a certain area. the marked targets will show up on the pilots screen until it is eliminated. there is also a cooldown for how long in between airstrikes the leader can call. as you progress into this tree the more detailed these airstrikes can be (eg. AA support or liberator bombings) also the more targets you can mark at the same time. also the area of pilots that recieves the mission request will increase. at the top of the skilltree one will get access to a "broken arrow" command which will send a call for help to all aircraft on the map requesting airsupport. however this skill would both take long to train and have a REALLY long cooldown, to avoid spam. alternatively that it only can be used during eg. red alert status on a base. (but wouldn't it be awesome to call "broken arrow" when defending a base and everything seems really lost and then all of a sudden a ton of aircraft shows up to save the day) on the pilots side of this he/she would have the option to filter from whom missions will arrive: all/outfit/platoon/sq a mission will show up as a notice on the HUD (I'm thinking like in the BF series where you as commander or sq leader gets requests from others and you can decide yes/no) if the pilot accepts the mission the target will show up on his display until it is eliminated. when a pilot accepts a mission the leader who created the mission gets a head's up that some support is coming so that he will know. when broken arrow request shows up the pilot should still have the option to decline the mission. To increase incentive for the pilot more BP could be rewarded the faster the target is eliminated. what I'm not sure of is if multiple pilots should be able to accept the same mission since the risk of being shot down is always there and then the requester would be in trouble. anyway I thought this would be a cool feature in the game and would hopefully make for some epic moment when calling in airstrikes on an enemy. |

This mission system they keep mentioning sounds like a really good idea. We can only hope that it will be usable and intuitive in real time like your description here. A BEP bonus would of course be essential to make it actually worth calling an air strike.
