What's in a Name.

I'll never understand why mmos don't go with a name system like steam uses, with a master account name you are identified by on the system, and a personal name you can change at will.

So long as we can right click the kill spam and chat screens to get the master name, then there'd be no issue with duplicates. Names change in my steam friends list all the time. I manage.

He just said "we're going to do this", the topic at the time was both personal and outfit names. Wouldn't mind some specificity though.

Honestly I believe outfit names need more reason to be saved than player names. Individual players can alter their original names easily, but an entire outfit name getting stolen would be terrible for every player in it. I can see it happening to several very well known outfits from PS1.

I could really give two shits what we call ourselves in PS2. If someone else wants to try and jack Future Crew they can have it. We know who Future Crew is, we don't rely on a name. We have several other names we've used in previous games and I'm sure we'd have no problem using a different name in PS2. The people make the Outfit, not vice versa. Take our name if you want, just live with the fact that you thought we were so good you had to pretend to be us.

In any way, both personal and outfit name reservation is absolutely necessary. Pull the data from the server, and apply the reservation on all servers. There is only one basti, nobody else shall use my name.

Would be nice to reserve a few names in PS2... Don't see why they wouldn't also include outfit names... SWtoR allowed creation of outfits before the game went live and then assigned outfits to servers to try and help with load during early access...

I believe if I need to talk to Dan-B he'd throw an instant ban-stick at me once he discovers I was a high ranking member in Band of Bros Haha! Hopefully he will now take it as water under the bridge after "The Superman Incident" way back when on Emerald...

Just run a simple database query and reserve all names in PS1 that have had an active subscription in the last 2 years. You claim it by your station ID. If not claimed within a month of the game release, the reservation is lost and anyone can take it.

The only thing that might have to be done manually is outfit names.
