I don't like the killcam. It reveals too much information.
A game like PS doesn't need it. That said, for larger outfits or organized play I'm not sure it matters too much in the long run. But I also don't see any compelling reason to keep it. For people who are cloakers or snipers or who have their favorite flanking spots I don't like the idea of kill cam revealing those personal trade secrets. If you want to know where they were, do a little deductive reasoning and figure it out, then go looking for them. Players will learn more that way. Knowing exactly were from a kill cam is quite lame and unnecessary. I do like corpse-cam like in the original PS. I think that one's OK, though I'd also favor giving hostile players the ability to force-respawn you to give them a means of preventing someone from sitting as a corpse and revealing intel about the enemy. |

I think maybe just a cam that stays first person even when you die would be cool. So you can be looking up at the sky with stuff flying overhead, or on your side, or even face down. Just hearing the fight around you while having the floor in your face would be cool :P

This seems very cool to me. Then you can see the medic's head bobbing around while he's rezzing... just before his face gets blown off. |

Now don't throw out killcam all-together. I always thought the old-style one that zoomed in on the location of the enemy from where he killed you from YOUR VANTAGE POINT was really nice and prevented camping. If the enemy was hidden enough or remained in motion it would be useless.

The Killcam in in present state is the only reason I would consider buying any cosmetic items. Because after I kill you I want you to see me looking shit hot!
After all i'm not going to buy cosmetic items because I can see 'em, my side are 80% 'tards anyway and I'm not going to buy anything to look good for those zerglings. No the only people that truly count in PS2 are the same that truly counted in PS1, and that was the enemy. And my relationship with that enemy was as real and important as any outfit friendships I developed. Hell I learnt smack talk for them, I danced on their corpses. I didn't care if no one on my side knew me, when me and my outfit rolled in and we got tells from the other side saying they were pulling out because we showed up. That was the only relationship that mattered. And the Killcam is just an extension of building on that kind of relationship, of developing rivalries between sides and between outfits. As indeed it has been stressed many times by the devs, they do want specialized outfits to not only have an impact in the fight but also for the other sides to know that that specialized outfit just shown up. And the killcam will give you this information, via their decals and vehicle/uniform skins as to which outfits are in the fight. I can appreciate the voices from the snipers and the cloakers hating the cam, after all their whole narrative is about being able to kill without being seen, and the killcam means they fail in that narrative after every kill. And that is a problem that needs to be worked out, otherwise those classes will not be enjoyable to the people who like playing them. Planetside though is about forces colliding, the majority of the players participated in massive head on conflicts. Not cloak and dagger or snippy snippy, but full frontal inyoface visceral combat, and the killcam will work brilliantly for that. note the scene, when in killcam view, the guy who killed you got killed - rage subsiding, internal balance restored. "suck it" i heard myself say. I see the killcams as a tool, allowing you to build a better rapport with your enemy and give you important large scale tactical information as to the groups you are fighting against; And as I said at the start, killcams are the only reason I would have for buying anything at all. The present inception of the killcam is not final product, we just saw a container, what was missing was the cosmetic items, the taunts, the outfit uniforms/decals and our relationship to the person who killed us. All things that have meaning in a persistent world. |

There is NO PLACE for a killcam in a war game like PS2!
Strategy can go out the window with this shit. The last thing I want is having the enemy simply relaying positional data on me or my guys simply because they died by my hands. EXAMPLE: VS against the TR in a facility. All out war where VS is in the hallway trying to push into a room with a bunch of TR. All you would have to do is send a runner in to DIE! Guess what, now the killcam just revealed peoples positions and now one side has the advantage! Just a bit upset with killcams in general. /endrant |

All you need is a top down view of yourself dead on the ground to see if a medic is ressing you. Also allows for taunts tea bagging ect whatever ure into. Its up to the player to find out where he was killed from. Thats half the fun I dont want the game telling me where people outfits hide. Finding them is half the fun. Sure tell me who killed me even show me his stats but dont show me where he is now and where he killed me from. Can you imagine the abuse this can do towards orbital strikes being pin pointed on spawn points. You dont even have to run to the spawn point to find its exact location. Just get killed by someone standing infront of it.
Other than that the game is coming along quite nice well done PS2 Dev crew. Still rekon tanks should be 2-3 people vech still. Driver and Gunner put so much more depth into the original game. Example a good team could always beat 2 killwhores in a tank if they didnt work together. Making 1 person tanks just makes for Kill whore tanker people. Also with So many people on the battlefield it will shrink the amount of tanks in combat. Get the vech aspect back to a team based aspect. Last edited by MuNrOe; 2012-03-08 at 02:17 AM. |
