Copy/Paste

I will have to say a lot of the gun shooting mechanics and so forth seem very copy cat to the BF series. While the ttk is apparently a little slower I really dont see the difference as to much. I'm not gonna knock it until I try it but, to be honest I feel as if what made planetside 1 so unique to a lot of people is its gameplay and sadly it kinda frightens me that with this new gameplay that it'll be another CoD to me and wind up being another thing in the past as opposed to Planetside 1 where no matter how hard I tried to quit I always came back.

Vanumax/martha got around the IP ban already?

And here I was thinking what made planetside unique was the scale...

Nah....his past posts are innocent enough.

To OP....you cant tell what it feels like till you play it.

Hooray! Discrediting veteran opinions by making them look like trolls! I don't even have to argue against them anymore!

I've played this game for many years and even was a closed beta individual for the original planetside. I feel as if I know what im talking about when it came to the certain feel that planetside 1 presented.

I come from a long long long history of PS playing and I can tell you that a lot of the veterans are going to probably be upset with the new gameplay changes, its just planetside wont be planetside anymore.

All of you posters malorn, and so forth where am I to voice my opinion? I want it to be known that im not happy and because you guys are so caught up in the production of your own opinion and you favor the new changes my thread should be closed? I feel that isnt fair even though I may be the minority.

I'm a veteran. The only gunplay aspect I'm concerned about is AOE weapons and time to kill.

You aren't in the minority. But simply saying "It doesn't look like Planetside 1 enough!" is simply not a valid reason to criticize the decisions made by the developers and already implemented in the game.

Higby has voiced his opinion on this already and seems to have valid reasons for why they are doing what they are doing.

Unfortunately the gun play mechanics are probably here to stay, as they're a more modernized mechanic that the "newer" generation of FPS players have come to expect.

I wasn't especially happy with it either, as you said the gameplay in PS always kept people coming back. I've come to accept the fact that PS2 won't be like PS1 at all, considering how many features have been cut to accommodate the newer crowd, but we'll have to wait until beta to see to see how it really feels. All these new mechanics are a necessary evil.

Also, I'm going to assume this is TRxArrow?

Well as you already should be from the obvious video that gameplay is for sure going to be different.

Yes while Planetside's unique aspect was scale of combat, you cant say that how the game was played and how people played the game didn't affect any of that. Call me the person living in the cave but it already looks like the game where you stop and ironsight battle till someone falls with little regards to having to track movement.

Gameplay that consists of constantly ironsighting is a complete borefest in my opinion. To much lack of skill as ironsighting slows the game play down so much but with the high ttk's it makes it possible for any lowly player to truely excel without much skill.

Ironsighting is exactly like crouching and scoping in PS1.

I have played since launch, and so have a few others on these boards and I am fairly certain most of them will tell you the thing that gave Planetside it's "feel" wasn't gun play mechanics; it was SCALE. As long as it is massive battles on large continents in a truely persistent world, then yes it is in fact Planetside. No matter how much you might disagree.

Planetside 2 will be different than the first game. It has to. If it does not have mass appeal in today's market then it will fail and fail MISERABLY. Unlike Lobby games and other "mmofps" games of recent PS2 is completely dependent on it's population. If the game fails to attract enough people then the very thing that makes Planetside what it is will be gone; and that "thing" is massive scale warfare.

Also:

I'm sorry, but PS1 had two speeds; crouched long-range fights (which is EXACTLY like ironsighting) and closeup ADADADADADADADADAD spam (which required so little skill it's pathetic).

Higby basically said in the other post "the GDC gameplay was a simplified demo, we're nowhere near done with the guns and shooting mechanics yet, have patience".

Check the VIP tracker, it's there somewhere. I just found out about that today
