Will each side get their own home "base" for training/messing around/gathering for upcoming battles like in PS 1? I for one think it would be cool to have some underground bunker style bases with long tunnels that can lead to other bases within the world for people that want to go the stealth/spec ops route.

The home bases are gone. Instead, each empire has a foothold on each continent, protected by a warp bubble. Presumably if PS2 has something like VR training, it will either occur from the main menu, or from within a foothold base.
I wouldn't mind seeing some tunnels and caves added though. Not isolated like Core Combat, but buried underneath parts of the regular continent space. Maybe some tunnels could be large enough for Galaxies to fly through easily, with others could be barely big enough for infantry. I wouldn't do it as a underground network that connected every base (at least not on every continent), but it could be fun to have a few bases have unique tunnel systems running between them. Some being very naturalistic looking cave networks, others appearing to be mined by Nanite Systems, others having an alien look to them. In relation to your idea, I don't see why there couldn't be tunnels leading out from each empires foothold. It would certainly provide another way of trying to fight back if your empire gets pushed back that far. There would be ups and downs. Not sure I'd support the idea, but it could be good. I suppose the devs could alter the cave network over time if they wanted to as well. Blame it on earthquakes and shifting plate tectonics or something. Keep the general caves and tunnels the same, but change which passageways were open or sealed off. Maybe minor blockage could be cleared by engis, while major blockage couldn't be cleared by the players. If they did that, you could have the entire continent have undeground catacombs and just limit it to a certain number that were accessible at any given time. A little like Core Combat caves, but not really. Obviously an entirely subterranean base could be something added to a continent, although I'm not sure how that would play with the hex system, so it may be a good idea to just not even go there. I was never the biggest fan of the Core Combat caves, but I think there is a lot of potential in the idea of subterranean combat in a game like Planetside. If not any of these ideas, then I would still like to see some form of cave environment added to the game. Not my highest priority though. I'd say Space > Naval > Caves, but I'd like to see all three if done well. |

This kind of thing looks like a really good idea, if one looks at the weather thread and thinks that aircraft would be grounded, then you could have like a sunderer network underground instead of galaxy transport.

Personally I hope those flying bases end up in-game.
BF 2142 had mobile flying bases and I have always wanted to see them in Planetside. Limited in number (1-5 per continent per faction), Outfit/Zone/platoon commander controlled for a set period of time (1/2 hours) before someone else gets a go. Control decided by bidding resources or some form of puclic/popular election. Ideally the base would be a mid air/skybox altitude controlable version of a BF1942 battleship or a Star Wars Battlefront2 space battle, a high survivability mobile spawnpoint/firebase/fortress, with a super-slow movement speed. Possibly with the ability to launch basic vehicles, internal hot-dropping tube stations that get loaded ground vehicles safely groundside (as if they bailed from a gal/lodestar) after using a separate terminal to spawn them. Bases should have a specialist turret to automatically attack and damage these flying fortresses to prevent abuse. The fortress should be destroyable only through base weaponry, assaults on its generator/core by actual troops or by another flying fortress. The main armour of the fortress should be immune to most small arms fire, but vehicle and AV should be able to destroy external modules, thrusters to slow its speed, shield generators to increase the damage it takes from other sources, weapons to prevent a rain of doom, etc. If destroyed a bases should skip to the next potential owner and have a 15-30 minute rebuild time that takes from the current owners resources/deposit. There should be an XP/resource bonus (or refund) for surviving to the end of your turn and a further bonus for using the fortress to assist the front lines of battle (and surviving). Repairs should be slow and automatic (2/3 mins) within a friendly hex, slower in an enemy hex. Boostable with interaction from a solo player but heightened further by a co-ordinated defending team. Any vehicles on the fortress should be kept internally until launched to prevent abuse of vehicle turrets in mid-air. Maxes can do as they will. Due to the nature and speed of the fortress it should be controlled by waypoints similar to an average RTS unit, but with options as to what way it faces while flying (flying sideways/backwards should decrease its speed but allow primary weapons banks to be aimed for maximum effect) Last edited by IMMentat; 2012-05-06 at 10:54 PM. |

Hm, flying bases... sounds exciting. I wouldn't mind flying islands as well like in Avatar
I mean, this is scifi... why not? How great would it be if a whole army has to gather in flying ships to invade such a flying island? |

Multi level - Inside Mountain Bases, or just bases that go under ground, or a mixture of above ground and underground would all make PS2 more beliveable. We have that all in todays world, why not ps2?
Flying bases no Flying ships maybe. Would rather see naval ships, and navy to navy - Navy vs costal units. I liked the caves - it was a different type of fighting, and the bonus for capture decent. Fought with 3 different toons in the caves. I would like an Outfit building of some type, that people could come to check out our stats on a display board using API info, A place that I can display the heads of Nortious Enemy Outfit leaders - A Rally point for my team, A recruiting station that Runs 24 Hours a day, A mesage Board, that only my Outfit can see, A place that my Outfit members spawn to when they 1st come into game the game. A map of the current Situation, Lockers to store Equipment., lockers that Extra Equipment could be stored for use by other members or could give or trade to my members. A place on the outside to place my outfits LOGO. Last edited by Noivad; 2012-05-11 at 08:31 PM. |
