Not some energy shield that protects you from every direction, but huge plate of metal that is practicly unpenetrable (at least with infantry weapons) from front. Dunno, maybe they could make it big enough to protect 1~2 infantry next to/behind you.. use the 'attack' button to activate and rise/open it up?

It does sound like a good idea, although I also agree that a melee weapon, while cool, would probably not work

You can't make the single gun twice as powerful, because with the one sided gun you can hide your another half body behind walls, so it's already makes the max more powerful.

Great point but... Two handed guns?

MAX units DO have hands after all, be a shame to hide the VS hands.

You need new animation for that, but can work.

Let us remove the left weapon and put a shield in its place.

Do want more accuracy, but LESS overall damage for bigger guns, but then again the current ideology is to keep MAXes indoors and off the main battlefield, to encourage vehicle usage, which is a smart design decision, something I didn't like about PS1.

Wouldn't mind having these slung as a 2 handed max weapon. Modified for balance of course.

maybe 2 barreled version.

Or just this as a 2 handed option.

I think the idea of an off-handed physical shield is brilliant.

One handed weapons could also remove an often ignored weakness if maxed in PS2, their inability to aim down sights.

So, between easier cover, increased accuracy and decreased recoil from the supporting arm, and sights, I'd say it just about works without any new guns. You get a max/heavy assault hybrid that splits the difference between the two.

If anything, this "change as little as possible" implementation would require a global accuracy/recoil nerf and damage or ROF buff across all MAX weapons, as you wouldn't want the 1h option providing anyone with perfect recoilless accuracy.

Or just a bigger gun. Example TR instead of a 5 barrel gattling (or however many it is) make it a 7 barrel, and do the buffing/nerfing as necessary.

I'm just imagining rolling around right now with a triple barreled scatter cannon. Drooooool...
