holy shit, psu should be renamed to mordor refugee camp!

welcome soldiers!
and i think it is good to see so many bf vets here that seem to have some problems with the dumbing down of bf3! (yes the evil word )

feel free to voice your opinion on the route, modern blockbuster-fps games took!
we neeed the devs to see that the most successful games in fact did not do everything right! and that there is a lot of room for improvement and "old" gamemechanics and features that were loved for many reasons!

don´t get me wrong, i am sure ps2 will be a great game! i just want the devs to use its full potential! there will be no better game than ps2, so i want it to have EVERYTHING it can possibly get!

Heheh... haven't seen that yet actually. No less true though.

Hadn't heard that they'd shut down Mordor. Was hoping to see it light up in self-righteous fury if/when the day came that that asshole Zhinto gets fired. Kinda sad... we true BF fans have to abandon the franchise after all we tried to pour into it.

Because it's a black hole of negativity.
The sun only shown on that fateful day in August when the Caspian Border trailer was shown. Alas, it was naught but treachery, and our hearts are darker and more cynical because of it.

Re: Greetings from Mordor(EA UK BF3 forums)

I'm going to share a little DICE map design philosophy.

The telemetry™ said Karkand is the most popular map in BF2. Which was true. All the "city maps" in BF2 where designed around 32 players but get this..... they where EXPANDED to accommodate 64 players.

Somehow that translated into designing all the vehicle maps I'n BF3 around 32 players and clustering ALL the flags in the fucking middle. Adding 1 or 2 more flags, marginally expanding the "large and empty playable area" and keeping the same amount of vehicles somehow balances the game for 64 players.

good thing, the ps2 devs have another map building philosophy!

they are planning for 2000 players from the start and every squareinch of the map is handcrafted and designed with gameplay in mind.

so we got that problem covered

The miracle behind handling 2000 men may be to separete them. To make sure that a significant part is inside buildings - preferably behind closed doors that no one can shoot through. No need to calculate with the other side of the door.

To separate them with the terrain - to scatter them along the frontline. To force them into "public transport" so a dozen of players are calculated as one.

And PS2 devs are only able to accomplish it with handcrafted, fine art maps - so don't fear to see those cheap methods in Planetside!

BTW, welcome all the refugees!

My favorite BF game was the original, where the infantry controls where so bad (in my view) that you had to fight with vehicles. So my favorite maps where the ones with the massive air and vehicle battles; Battle for Britain, Guadale canal, and that desert one where everyone was in a tank. Good times.

I though that BF3 had good gameplay feel, but that the map design let it down and the only good maps were the B2K ones, and they had not even chosen the best in my view.

I cant wait to start seeing massive armored battles, meaning more than 3 on each side which seems to be the new definition by DICE. Then seeing a formation air strike sent to wipe out one or both sides that are fighting, followed maybe by a Galaxy drop to mop up the survivors.

This game is just going to be awsome!

Alas, no, I am not in any prominent clans of whatever games SOE has targeted. But, I think it's 50/50 they will help the game by listening to those guys. On the one hand, I'm betting clans from other games will argue for more prominent squad spawning and prone, on the other, they might beg for killcam and 3D "shoot here, it's OK if you don't actually see the person" spotting.
