lets say there is some that just sits at a warpgate and lets say there camping outside a warpgate with a sniper rifle, can you shot into a warpgate, im assuming not because of that big fricking bubble, but i mean you never know.
edit: and it'd be punkish of NC sitting in bushes somewhere near by, waiting with a pheonix rocket flying in circles waiting for people to leave, most likely ANTs. yes, their ammo would run out, but that doesnt make it not very annoying.

No can't shoot inside it.
Yes, you can follow people around until they leave . . . but if you're outside, and they're in an ANT inside, bear in mind -- they're safe, you're not. They can have some friends show up and deal with you, or to provide them cover.

ok, three things, warpgates are just inconceiveably huge, you can't shoot anyone inside them, and just about everybody will be on a vehicle when they go through one. I.E. anyone who gets the bright idea of camping a warpgate as a sniper deserves to get owned even worse then they will.

I can see some crazy stuff happening at Warp Gates. (Good thing).
An ANT is all filled up and ready to leave. But an enemy tank pulls up right alongside. (Yes yes yes, I KNOW that the person inside the circle can take off the other direction, but we don't know how much faster/slower the tank is than the ANT -- besides, he could be in a Reaver, whatever). So the ANT sends for backup. At the same time, that tank crew is saying to his friends "Guys, there's an ANT at this warpgate, I've got it pinned down! Come on over!" A couple of Reavers show up to escort the ANT -- at the same time that three reavers and four Mosquitos come barrelling over a nearby hill! Quickly, the 2 friendlies hop inside the Warpgate. The bad guys are outside the Warpgate, waiting. This process is repeated for the next half-hour, until the inside of the warpgate is swarming with all kinds of bitter enemies -- Vanu, NC, TR, all packed in there, in vehicles, MAX armor, etc. Close to three hundred, all waiting, weapons ready . . . One mosquito tries to leave! Instantly, six AA MAX armors hop outside the forcefield and blast away at it. BOOM! The mosquito goes down from the 12 missiles it took up the keister. But that was all it took. The MAX armors are outside! The exodus begins, and the war is ON! Mmmm. I can't wait for the game. That's the kind of unique, unexpected stuff that makes a game so memorable.

One of my first posts ever on this forum, during the TW invasion. You have to understand it in CONTEXT though.

if people camp the warp gates, they should all be thrown from the game. besides, they probably wouldn't do it for long considering it would get repetitive and boring. i will kill all gate campers. since i will be vanu, for all vanu gate campers, have fun NC and TR. tear em up.

I'd say to hell with it and just gate out of there personally. Either that or get out of the ANT and intentionally walk out of the warpgate and get killed. Then respawn and drive, buy another ANT and drive it to a differant warpgate.
A better option will be to request a Galaxy pickup. The galaxy would simply leave via the opposite side of the warpgate. I personally belive warpgate camping will be a viable strategy. Waiting a ways down the road from a warpgate, patiently anticipating the arrival of an enemy ANT may very well be lame, but a strategy that denies the enemy of resources and givesyour faction and advantage is still a winning strategy nomatter how much the loser cries about it. NTU resupply groups will have to adjust their strategies on the fly. |

I wouldn't be at all suprised to find that gate SCOUTING becomes quite common. The powers that be on a given continent are going to want to know when a platoon of hostiles jumps through the gate and heads north.
Having a fast attack group ready nearby would also be Real Helpful. You wouldn't need that tank shadowing the ANT inside the bubble... just a scout with his eye on it. The ANT would feel safe, and leave the bubble... at which point scout could notify the attack group, which shows up and mugs the ANT. No goofy stand-offs, just a dead ANT. That same attack group could strike at specific targets of a larger convoy (say the AMS[s])... or be part of a larger attack. Tanks from the front... let them move the lighter stuff to the back, then reavers hit'em from behind... that sort of thing. |
