Yeah but if you look at the size of the verticle thrusters on the Harrier compared to it's size (bearing in mind the harrier is not nearly as hollow as the Gal) it's clear that the Gals thrusters are powerful enough to lift that thing even in 1g!

It looks heaps like an ah64, and as far as I'm concerned, as long as it doesn't look like it has poor physics when it's animated, then it's perfect! It looks really cool! Although the upside down tail did really give it its own unique look...
I.m sure when it its animated landing, the hydrolics will give a little, and it will look realistic |

The problem is that the new, more conventional tail design is way too modern (not futuristic) and gives the impression that the Reaver is similar to an attack helicopter.
In reality, the Reaver and the other air vehicles in its class function more like fighter jets (F-16) and attack aircraft (A-10) depending on their loadout. |

Makes me wonder what the depth of the physx engine provides. wouldn't they have to essentially make every object in the world in relation to how physx would handle it? I don't really know the inner workings, but I assume they can pick and choose who/what/when/where/how physx acts on ingame objects. If that is the case, and the physx engine let the reaver stand with the current design, then Nvidia just blew all of our minds...
+1 for the vid showing the tail support. Where is it in the recent vids though...? |

I have an explanation, it's a bit of a stretch..
The vehicles in planetside are all produced by nanites. Therefore they are made, sent into combat, destroyed or disassembled by nanites again. It is also apparent that fuel is not a problem for these vehicles. It must be some sort of fuel (nuclear?) that last long enough to not to be a limiting factor. Therefore, I think the Reavers may just leave the engine on for the entire service duration. In this case, the tail support isn't necessary. tl;dr: Reavers never turn their engines off, no need for tail support. |
