^ That's the part where he says they have to make many small conflicts spread across the map right? So size matters sometimes, not always, right? . So they are redefining the MMOFPS genre by making it so there many small battles across a single map instead of a couple of large battles with a splattering of small battles elsewhere.
That's doesn't spell MMOFPS to me. I suppose when they get to the part where we have continent locking this may change. I just don't see how it would work otherwise. In the end, I think all this debating about this comes down to SOE just not sharing with the players what they are trying to achieve with the game. |

You know as well as I do that the entire population on a map wouldn't typically sit at the same exact location. This is especially true for PS2 since the travel distances are not that far and the terrain directs you on the ground. There defiantly should be multiple attack vectors. Isn't that what the entire hex vs. lattice discussion revolves around?
EDIT: Anyways, they still do plan to put continent locking in as far as I know. With each empire having a single foothold on one continent, correct? Guess we'll have to see how it plays out when they get to that point. I'm just still confused how it will work exactly without some sort of link system. They don't need to make the game dumber (Hello Call of Duty), they need to make the players smarter (Hello tutorial / help).
If they get the impression people find their game too "complex" just because they don't have the time to implement proper information / documentation, well, then maybe exactly that "release-now-pressure" and not having any time is the problem, and not the concept itself. |
