Imagine what you could do with this game if they give us the same cinematic tools as COD BO2. It would totally put that game to a shame from a YouTube perspective and make that community wonder if they are playing the right game. SOE should not underestimate the importance of adding these cinematic tools sooner rather than later. YouTube cinema and PS2 are made for each other as already has been proven. It's the best possible marketing for this game. Last edited by Rolfski; 2012-11-17 at 12:03 PM. |

I don't see them having the ability to do this. With most of the xbox recordings, it records the entire map and the entire match. You can watch something your friend or retarded team mate were doing while you were off busy somewhere else. I don't know how that would work for a huge open world game like Planetside 2.

What do you mean bullet? They already have these tools for PS2. Luperza uses them when she does Friday Night Ops. They are also constantly refining how they work. I'm assuming they will allow players to use them eventually.

I've never watched any Friday night Ops, lol.
I just checked out a tiny portion of one of the FNO vids. I'm assuming you're talking about when she is able to fly around the map WHILE recording footage. Thats not nearly the same thing. On xbox with the Halo/CoD recordings, you play the entire match and it saves each match you play. You can then go back and watch that entire match over again from any perspective you want. Its not an active recording thing you do while playing. You don't have to enter some command and start flying around the map and record an event that was going on, you can simply go into the "theater mode" and watch the entire match again. Its like spectating but you can pause, rewind, fastforward etc. |

It's possible. They could probably only keep a limited amount of time span of data (drive space). Perhaps a month, or two weeks.
Of course, I'm talking out of my ass a little. I have no idea what kind of horse power servers would require. Might not be cost effective. Last edited by Crator; 2012-11-17 at 10:27 AM. |

To the op, the possibilities of this particular tool are incredibly amazing and need to be added to Planetside 2 asap. Now the recording area needs to be limited to about 1000 yards to keep this kind of file from being so rediculously large that it would be unworkable.
But if they could give you the footage from the entire continent during the time that you recorded you could literally set a movie following multiple large fronts, multiple empires. You could be the guy who discovers and puts out to video incredible acts of skill and stupidity. This would be some awesome shit. This is advertising that you only pay for once but keeps giving until the game goes tits up. Needs to happen AT launch, so get working devs. |

And I'm not only talking epic battle clashes here. There's enough potential in this game for making goofy vids as well, like this BF2 classic: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/SIo3q-tcmk4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

With a Halo/CoD recording, I imagine they just track players positions and actions over the map because they only have to track around 20 players on a tiny map. They can then recreate the actions/movements. Of course I have no idea how the actual technology works, but i haz emaginashun. |

And btw: 2 or 3 good trailers are enough to get people interested in a game and let them try it. It's free. Nobody buys a game just because some kid made a video from a game he played. Looks like a cool tool, but it's just... candy on top. Last edited by Sturmhardt; 2012-11-17 at 12:19 PM. |

Whatever the technical challenges, I'm pretty confident SOE is determined to overcome these. The fact that they hire YouTubers to make tutorials for them is for me a sign that they get this.
Success of a video game is heavily influenced by YouTube nowadays. Why do you think a single developer game like Minecraft became such an amazing block buster? Because besides game play it allows for awesome video. I hardly play Minecraft anymore but I still watch it a lot. PS2 has the potential to create this kind of hype as well once they give their audience the tools for it. Hate to tell it to you but it's the COD crowd that is the critical mass SOE needs to make this game a success. Last edited by Rolfski; 2012-11-17 at 12:34 PM. |

I think Halo 3 was the first game on X-Box to do the match recording an playback. I used to have as much fun rewatching the match to see why things played out the way they did as I did actually playing it lol. It would be cool if they could add the feature to this game somehow. It's just it would be entirely different to do it compared to session based games. Those session based games have your console/PC load the entire map, and every player model in at once. And the feature just has you recording stuff that happens in it.
In PS2 it doesn't load the entire map, and everyone in obviously. Just stuff happening within a certain range around you. Otherwise no computer could run this game. Because of that limitation it probably wouldn't be that much better than a normal stream. Which they already added with twitch integration. |

If that happens you will see 4634 posts per minutes demanding SOE to make this game to be exactly like COD. CoD players play CoD because they like that game and as soon as they try any other game they just demand it to be exactly like CoD.
