The pink hearts on the outside of the cockpit screens do seem a little bit too much, but I think customisation has the potential to be a great thing overall, for the reason mentioned above. This gives outfits the ability to fully define the way they appear in person. That's a GOOD thing. You won't be recognising that highly capable outfit by name alone any more, but by the schlong and trollface decals on its members' shoulderplates. I think people are jumping the stripy, day-glo pink gun here just a wee bit.

I've imagined an assaulting platoon of Vanguards, all colored in some crazy colors/patterns, like "Hello Kitty" and shit... would look pretty damn stupid... i don't want that.

I think it's a brilliant idea! The more unique skins the game has, the better i say. Why so?
Well cause:
1) It will give people choice how to look in the game.
2) It will bring $ to the devs.
Conclusion: it's a win- win situation here.

On personal note: I'd like to see a tank column, all with cool skins and paints. It will be a blast to fire at and get shot by them.

I think you all moan too much and I hope SOE doesn't listen to you lot and ruin the game based on whining forums like they did with SWG, EQ and PS. All the time all they do is listen and change the game based on the forums and not the stats they get back from people actually playing. Why I agree with Smedley and the Vocal Minority, though it didn't help that the changes they made sucked lol.

Being able to customise your ship is great and I cannot wait.

A thing I do hope that is retained in Planetside 2 is that there is at least still a reasonable amount of distinction between between different empires in coloring. If you look at TB's liberator, it's almost completely covered by the zebra print. Any empire can do that, which means that NS vehicles can look exactly the same even if it is owned by different empires. And I know that you can easily see if the vehicle belongs to your empire or not by looking at the icon above the vehicle (red or green), but there still needs to be some constant difference between different empire vehicles to keep the immersion.

If you're talking about the people hating the cosmetic customization, sure.

But we need to fight against the low TTK and other issues of that nature. To be clear, I am not saying we need a Planetside 1 insane high TTK - but at least noticeably higher than the TB video.

I thought the purple on the leading edge was fairly visible, however looking at the craft from the rear would be problematic. But if it had some faction colors on the tail (and on the underside!) it would be fine

like i have said before, im pretty sure they are going to balance that when beta comes out, seriously people need to let this go for now until we can call see the actual ttk in beta and until they can do some proper balancing

Wait...

A camo print that actually camouflages you, or at least confuses the ennemy for a few seconds...

Is that REALLY a bad thing?

What I am talking about is that the vehicles of different empires will look too similar, I didn't even mention camouflage....

Well, true, but the only partern we've seen so far is the zebra camo one.

(And it was a real question, actually. I wasn't trying to troll you)

The only thing that bothered me in the video is that we didn't get to see the main gun fire off....and that the liberator didn't seem to bank at all when turning. Since it is a gunship I don't expect it to be able to do barrel rolls (despite how incredibly awesome that would be with the lib's main gun) but it should at least have some tilt. Here's to hoping it is simply an alpha "feature"

That was a placeholder reaver cockpit, the actual one is pretty badass.

The shadow from the Liberator on the ground is one of the most ominous things I saw in PS2. If you see that floating behind you.. you damn well better move.

I flew it around a bit myself I think it's going to be a REALLY fun aircraft.
I'd have to agree with Hamma the shadow of the Liberator is distinctive you see that above you head for cover very bird of prey looking

Tactical fighting just means maximising the effectiveness of outward force/weaponry while minimising return fire.

A main battle tank is a large vehicle designed to take and deal damage, not navigate a high velocity projectile (Turret/BFR/aircraft gatling gun), guided missile, air to ground rocket, land mine and vehicle permeated battlefield without a scratch. Maybe a VERY lucky cloaked ATV or scout aircraft could manage it but not a high visibility slow moving target.

The magrider could dance beautifully, but not well enough to avoid every projectile around and there was a time when those babies could glide like an ice dancer (youtube Virtue & Moir/Torvill & Dean).
The screenshot i cropped was the result of 3-4 engagements with a scrappy base fight but the point stands.

Most storytellers have enough sense to know the difference between a pretty idea where the hero walks out of a battle untouched leaving fallen foes in their wake and one where the carnage of a good fight soaks into his or her fibers. Any action, martial art or wartime movie can showcase this brilliantly, even games protagonists get increasingly damaged as the plots progress.

AAAanyways.
Variety is the spice of life and so as long as any skins/recolours and decal is quality tested enough to apply to the vehicle properly, i'll accept it as a brightly lit potential target.
Tactically avoiding damage does not mean dancing about, that is ridiculous talk in an environment where weapon velocity is so high. Tactically avoiding damage can be down to team work and battlefield positioning. After all you don't need to be dancing around to minimise damage, for this I have two words: Hull Down.

And in your paragraph about storytellers, that is done for dramatic effect, it shows a real struggle by the protagonist by bringing them to hell and back. But that's just it, it is for entertainment and to add drama. Naturally the man who comes out of the same battle having faced the same threats but is in much better shape IS the better soldier. If you could run two identical battles where the end result is the enemy is utterly wiped out but the only things that change is the numbers of troops remaining, which would be more impressive and seem more professional and capable? A force that comes back with 25% losses, or the force that returns with 50% losses? Less losses and damage taken means that force is superior, and I don't see why that does not apply to individuals to.

This is an old favourite said in the dog fighting industry:
"When I'm looking to make a bet, I don't bet on the dog covered with scars and whose looking mean, I bet on the dog with the same win record who is clean as a whistle, because it shows he is so good that he doesn't even give 'em a chance to deal damage."
