Why i love living in Canada!!

Just saw the 9700pro at futurshop. Only a small 650$.

Hopefully that's just Futurshop trying to screw people and i can find it somewhere here cheaper, if not i'll try to order from the stated i guess.

JEEEZ did you get a tube of anal lube and a steak dinner with that???? Wow man they are trying to screw you (assuming that is dollars and not Canadaland money). What is the Canadian conversion rate? A good price with shipping is about 320 US.

320US = 500Can.

I thought it was lower than that though. Or at least so says pricewatch(230$ there).

But i'm not changing cards till the FX comes out so if i buy the ATI it shouldn't be that much.

Thats probably for an OEM (which doesn't have a memory heatsink) or "gold" edition. The best bet is to pay for the full price for the ATI brand just so you don't spend time mailing it around if it's busted.

it costs about 200$ for a 256mb memory stick, i dont think im gonna risk my babysitting on it seeing it might still not work, for 200$ thats about 1/5th of the way to a brand new computer..

Combat-Wombat,

Yeah, maybe if you're looking at some godawful place like Best Buy. Go online. Hell, you don't even need to go to Pricewatch and hunt for the best price -- just go to www.crucial.com. You can get a single 256 MB stick of PC2100 DDR for something in the ballpark of $75, and PC133 is dirt cheap right now, if your system uses that.

Never, ever buy computer components from Best Buy, CompUSA, Circuit City, etc. They sell absolute bottom-of-the-barrel garbage and absolutely rape you on the price. The ONLY time it's worth buying anything computer-related from them is if they have something you specifically want that's on clearance and is an item that's not really seen as an upgrade... i.e. sometimes you can get a good deal on a NIC or a hub or something of that variety, but that's it.

I thought it was lower than that though. Or at least so says pricewatch(230$ there).
Yeah, like Nav said, those are OEM cards... they're clocked lower than a standard 9700P and are missing the memory heatsinks, so you can't just clock the thing up like a normal 9700P, as you've been able to do for YEARS with ATi products.

One thing to look for are the third party manufacturers that ATi's recently allowed to use their chipset. Sapphire and PowerColor in particular are excellent models. The Sapphire can be overlocked rather impressively right out of the box, and the PowerColor is pretty feature-rich. Plus, with those you don't need to worry about OEM vs. retail, 'cause they're all retail.

crucials price for memory for my dell dimension xps b1000r is 179$. Unless ive got everything wrong you must buy system specific memory, one or two different memory sticks for each computer system, and those sticks only work on those computers. is that right? Btw crucial doesn't actually have it either

The geforce FX is very not neccesary for this type of game. It would be nice to run on it but you won't need it even for some of the very intense battles. Unless the screenshots are fooling the crap out of me the graphics aren't as demanding as something like doom 3.

Something like a gf4 ti4600 or the ATI radeon 9700 pro should run this game just fine under just about any circumstance. That also depends on your existing system configuration. You're not going to have a very good time with just the minumum system requirements for ram and cpu speeds regardless of what card you have.

Someone said, not sure who but it may have been Hamma or someone on the staff, that a Geforce 3 would be handle it well enough. I'm using a Radeon 8500 and that handles everything I've played well enough at the "medium" settings that it rarely has any comp lag.

Go to www.crucial.com and grab an extra 512 for that thing. You will be able to feel the difference.
Whoever buys memory is a fool. Their prices are DOUBLE the prices at Pricewatch lists.

Yeah maybe, but you have to take into account quality and customer service. You *can* buy from someone you've never heard of, and maybe luck up, or you can go with a well known name. I'd say it would be worth the extra 25 bucks, for a better product and better support.

Aight, i'm going to ask again, how will ANY card beable to run well with 100 people on your fucking screen at once? Geforce 3 can't even run tournament 2003 with about 4-8 people on screen at once with highest resolution. Multiply that by 10-20 fucking times.
