That's all for today. However, tomorrow's my last final.

Chapter 7: Yeager

He found the flight extremely boring. The computer was flying.

The digital altimeter read 100,000 feet- the predesignated altitude. The jets held up fine. The spare engine was off. He checked his speed. The aircraft suddenly went level after a few minutes of climbing. Speed was getting into the transonic area. The air was moist...moist enough for a shock wave!

As an aeronautical engineer, he comprehended perfectly what would have scared an untrained pilot shitless. Maybe that's why he was picked. The view ahead grew white. The layer of white was pushed back as the aircraft grew faster. It was the sound wave. It passed his cockpit. There was a loud BOOOOOM as he broke the sound wave. Then everything was quiet. The jet engine sound was all he heard, the wind no longer becoming audible. The shock wave looked like sharp spikes coming off the cockpit. It dissipated as he left the transonic range of speed.

He checked the Machometer. Mach 1.3.

Sure, going fast is exciting, but there's no danger. It's all cut and dry- do this, do that. I'm not dodging missiles on Searhus, I'm cruising along so high that nobody can see me, even with scopes.

The computer was flying the preprogrammed route. He sat back and relaxed.

Chapter 8: Big Brother is Watching You

~A few hours later~

He finally made it. He was over the Sanctuary.

He switched one of the TV displays in his cockpit from the Damage Monitor to Camera View. The other remained on Map. He now had a camera view of what he was looking at.

He saw the coastline clear and in full color. A few unrecruited civilians were lying on the beach, some swimming, some sunbathing, others building sand castles.

Big Brother is watching you!

He then came over the city.

The city was bustling. The city in the TR Sanctuary looked like the one in the NC Sanctuary. A few cars moved around, the occasional military vehicle, but that was it. Citizens went about their daily lives, unaware that they were being watched.

This was almost addictive.

He then came over the target area.

The area was surrounded by AMSes which provided a cloaking bubble. After that was a barbed wire-on-concrete fence with security towers.

He then saw the target area.

There were a few tanks. The first thing he saw was the exhibition. There were three tanks in a row from all three empires- a Prowler, a captured MAG-Rider, and a captured Vanguard.

There was a fourth tank.

It was big, at least 1.5 times the others. The armament was another double-cannon assembly. They looked exactly like the Vanguard 150mm cannon. It also had the 25mm cannon found on the Liberator, presumably for air defense. A new tank.

The next thing he saw was a modified Marauder sporting 2 35mm cannon, also taken from the Liberator.

The rest of the area was a field trial. The new vehicles were compared to the old ones when crossing obstacles, racing, and in mock fights.

Aztec was stunned. These new vehicles would be devastating. The autopilot began to turn around to get the rest of the Sanctuary when it happened.

Chapter 9: Unexpected Combustion

The Camera View was less important.

The Damage Monitor came up, overriding Aztec's view.

LENGINE: FIRE appeared on screen, flashing red and yellow. The alarms went off in the cockpit.

SHIT!

He looked to the left. The engine was on fire. The front burned. Thick black smoke came from the fire. Damn! He decided to turn off the engine. The fire slowed. The black smoke kept on coming out.

He lit up the emergency engine. It came to life without a hitch.

His mind raced. There had been no missile warnings. Nothing had hit him. It was a fucking malfunction, that's what it was! The engines weren't TESTED! What worked out on computer will not necessarily work out in real life!

The fire came back.

He checked speed. Mach 2.6 and slowly dropping.

The fire went away. A few seconds later, it came back.

How about the fire makes up its da-

He saw a red flash.

He was terrified now. He mustered up the courage to look to see what had happened. He turned. The engine had exploded. Pieces had lodged in the glass!

COCKPIT PRESSURE: DROPPING! DROP ALTITUDE!

"FUUUCK!"

The suit kept pressure and oxygen on in case of emergency.

FUELSYS: NOGO

"The fuel system has shut off and sealed off the left wing in order to prevent an explosion." said the calm female voice, which was the warning voice.

RENGINE: EMERG SHUTDOWN

Turn on the fuel system, I'll explode. Leave it off, I will barely make it back...even if I manage to dodge enemy fire...

Speed plummeted. The sound of the air wooshing came back. Without the power of the engines, the craft could no longer maintain speed and altitude.

The emergency engine wasn't intended to operate this high.

"The auxiliary engine has shut down due to exceeding the height limit. Please descend to under 65,000 feet." crooned the female emergency voice.

75,000 feet. Someone told me that 75,000 feet was the minimum safety height...this gets better and better.

He tried to glide as best as he could.

Chapter 10: Shooting Star

~Verona Beach, TR Sanctuary~

Manitou was getting his complimetary 7-day vacation from service. TR High Command hoped that a break would ease the soldiers and boost morale. Soldiers got a 7-day break after six weeks of fighting.

He was lying down on a chair. He was on TRNet chatting with Hamma.

Mini-Mani, his grandson, was making a sand castle next to him. He was a toddler.

"Daddy! Daddy! What's that? Is it a shooting star?"

He pointed at the sky.

Manitou looked at it. It was no shooting star. It was a black spot trailing smoke and blue material.

"No, Mini-Mani, it's a satellite coming down."

"Oh."

Mini-Mani resumed making the castle. Manitou picked up his cell phone.

"TR HQ? This is General Manitou."

"Loud and clear, Manitou. This is General Steinberger."

"Look up. We have a UFO coming in."

"I'm in an office right now, moving outside. Can I see it through the window?"

"No, it's right above us. Do we have anything that flies that high?"

"Nothing. Let me take a look..."

~Public Relations Office, Terran Republic Military Headquarters~

Lt. General Steinberger stepped outside of his office and onto the balcony. He had with him a Bolt Driver from his sniping days. He zoomed in, 8x.

It was definitely not a Terran aircraft. He got to know all the secrets they had so that he could lie to the public. He had not been informed of this. He made out what looked like an aircraft that was once a Reaver, trailing black smoke. A third engine underneath was trying repeatedly to be lit. He also made out a pod. It was carrying some sort of pod.

"I'll call you back, Manitou."

He hung up and called the Air Corps Office.

"Pratt? This is Steinberger, we have a bogey over the Sanctuary."

Chapter 11: 13th Time's the Charm

80,000 feet.

Let's try to light the engine for the twelvth time...

BZZZZZzzzzmmmmmmm....

"You must descend to under..."

"SHUT UP!" he screamed. The voice continued, irrespective. He decided that he would have to descend to light that engine.

He descended to the specified height, gaining speed. He lit the engine.

BZZZZMMMMM!!! It screamed, lively. It began to hum.

Then he heard an explosion which sounded like an EMP grenade going off.

AUXENGINE: NOGO

What the hell had happened....then he remembered. Too many lights had sacrificed too many nanite ions to become stable, causing an explosion. Why the HELL didn't he remember that?

He was powerless.

The biggest fear of his life hit him. He would have to escape, but how?

He checked the TV camera. He was over the outskirts of the city. He decided that following his crate was no good. He would have to eject. However, he wanted to throw them a curveball...

"The auxiliary engine is leaking nanite ions."

Blue!

The engines glowed blue. All he had to do was separate the engine, let it drop, and it would look like a falling soldier's kinetic dampeners. But how to let it out...turn on the fuel! His aircraft was still on fire. He had to turn on the fuel, then eject. The Reaver would eventually explode, and the engine would glow blue falling. It wasn't perfect- there would be two blue falling objects, but it was better than one.

He took a risk and programmed his kinetic dampeners to turn on just fifty feet from the ground. It was perfect now- just one trail.

He manually turned on the fuel. The fuel flow came on, and with it, the fire. It grew huge. Aztec pulled the switches on both sides of the cockpit, and the newfangled "ejection seat" worked perfectly- a refreshing brake from his bad luck.

It all happened so quick.

The cockpit glass was blown off by rockets. His seat went up, too. It cleared the tail. He was thrown out in the blink of an eye.

But there was always a hitch. The designers overlooked something which, clasically, worked on the computer but not on paper.

The seat was flammable.

The rockets ignited the seat. The outer layer of Aztec's suit was burning. Aztec tore it off. He then decided to leave the suit on the chair so that it would be charred and unidentifiable when it hit the ground. Maybe they would take him for an alien.

He was free falling in Agile armor, minus the helmet. He jumped off the seat, having squirmed out of the seat belt, leaving the suit on the seat to burn.

He was unburned. At least the suit was flame-proof.

He looked at his impromptu landing zone. It was going to be the backyard of a house. Actual houses were rare, most people had apartments. This person was rich. Maybe it was a general...he could swap armor and somehow get home.

He looked at the Reaver. He had been falling for at least a minute. It exploded, and, sure enough, there was a blue streak coming down. He heard sirens. He even spotted some vehicles going for the crash site.

He laughed.

Chapter 12: AGN Terran Republic Edition- Breaking News

Marsman went on air, overriding Sophia Sak's broadcast of a tennis match.

"We have breaking news, there is an unidentified object over the TR Sanctuary. It is trailing smoke...we've just recieved word that it has broken up midair and the pilot is zooming down with the wreckage. The UFO is manned. It does not appear to be alien in nature, but the Terran Republic Militia is already on its way. The object is flying extremely high.

We have just been notified that the Terran Republic Command has decided to deactivate all weapons locks. Weapons are now live. Extreme caution is advised.

Chapter 13: A sheep in a land of foxes

He shut up as he hit the ground. 50 feet was still too high. Hell, he'd bailed out at treetop height, why did he nervously choose fifty? He didn't know.

He landed in the backyard of a house. There was a shed, presumably full of tools for the garden. It was full of red and white-grey flowers along with food. A Victory garden. There was a hot tub and a gravball net arena. It was a hell of a lot- Aztec, like the majority of people on Auraxis, lived in apartments.

He had no guns.

He decided then and there to do away with his PDA. Every soldier had one, it carried his map, battleplans, notes, and other things. He dropped it in the hot tub (which was cold at the time) while on. It was shorted out. Good. It wasn't out for good, though- he would have to get rid of the central data disc. He resolved to do it later.

He checked the house for break-in sensors. All he had to do was break in, hide the armor, preferably burn it, get some new clothes, and it would be over.

Shit! Sensors on the doors and windows.

The glass sliding rear door was locked, and breaking it was out of the question. The fence was relatively high, nobody could see him. Would he have to hijack a vehicle?

Traning. Remember your training. First priority- find shelter. Underground, preferably.

Underroad drainage pipes, sewers, anything was fair game. He was presumably in the residential area. With attention focused on the crash site, he was lucky. He could move without too much attention.

He jumped the gate over to the street. He heard sirens.

He feared the worst and jumped back. He got behind the shed, and not inside. If they checked, he would have nowhere to run.

Not the shed. Always leave a route open for escape. If they come, I'll jump the next fence.

The sirens stopped outside the house. His blood ran cold. He took a peak over the fence. Shit! Four soldiers at a barbecue. The neighbors were no good. He took a look over the back fence. Another empty yard.

The sirens resumed and left. He was safe.

Chapter 14: Need for Speed

He again jumped the gate to the front yard. He peeked around the corner to the house. No cars in the front yard, no garage. Nobody was home. The road was empty, save for the occasional speeding land transport, full of either militia men or firemen. On the other side of the street were more and more residences. The nearest one had two civilian cars parked in the front yard- a pickup based off the ANT. Instead of carrying nanites, it had a bed in the back. A pickup truck. The other car was identical.

That house's front door opened. Aztec dove for the bushes. It worked. He didn't recognize the owner. He entered his P-150 Lightning pickup truck and sped off. Unfortunately, the flight suit contraption had made him unable to carry any guns. He would have liked to put a shot through his brain, right at home, take his car, and find an empty Reaver lying around.

There was another car. The same make and model.

He ran across the street and got into the bed of the pickup. He hoped that the owner would come out.

"Yeah, whatever, buddy! My Lightning can outrun yours!" someone screamed. The door to the house closed. He recognized the voice. It was Hamma, the Terran ace. They hated each other. Hamma entered the truck, started the engine, and sped off. He was muttering.

"The dumbshit. NOBODY can beat Hamma's Lightning in a drag race..."

Great. I get to ride in the back of a Lightning doing 175 kilometers per hour and more...

Chapter 15: On the Beach

~1 PM local time~
~30 minutes after crash~

Aztec rode quietly. Hamma went through the city. He listened to the radio as Marsman reported.

"The crashed vehicle appears to be a much-modified derivative of the Auraxis Engineering 25A Reaver. It appears that the blue trail which was presumed to be the pilot's Kinetic Dampeners has proved false. It was merely an engine, still activated, discharging nanites. A badly-burned chair and a space suit have been found at the scene, so this is a human manned aircraft. The Terran Republic Air Corps commander would like to assure everyone that no such aircraft exists in the Terran arsenal. The pilot either a Vanu or an NC. Extreme vigilance is required of us all at this hour. The Sanctuary is under lockdown this afternoon. Non-military personnel are not allowed to leave the Sanctuary for any reason.

Damn.

We will keep you posted."

At this point, the radio switched to technico, Hamma's favorite type of music. Aztec hated it.

He eventually arived at Verona Beach, where the Dragonwolves were all gathered for time off from duty. Hamma was going to drag race the other vehicle after the people had been cleared out of the way. First, however, he had to park it. Aztec poked his eyes out. The lot was almost full. That was good. He decided to jump out when he parked. Naturally, there was nothing in the bed. A drag car must be as light as possible. There was no reason for Hamma to check, and he didn't.

Aztec got out and rolled under the truck. There were quite a few people. He decided that he would need to crawl under the cars to get around. He crawled a few cars away and paused to think.

How the hell am I going to get out of here? The Sanctuary's under lockdown, so I'll need to hitch a ride on a vehicle. Gate transport is no good, I can't go through. HART transport is also a bad chice, the buildings are packed. The only solution would be to hitch a ride somewhere, somehow. How am I going to get into the military sector undetected? I'll need a change of clothes, maybe even a uniform swap...I'll have to get into the city. How am I going to do that...at least I'm away from my landing zone. They can't be able to track me, there are no footprints.

He crawled under the cars for what seemed like hours. He decided that a bus or a transport going back was the best option. Eventually, he reached the big trash bins, used for loading trash which was carried off by trucks to the nanite extractors...

Trucks! There was a dump truck coming in. Aztec was in a car maybe fifty feet from the bins. The two drivers parked it right next to the bins. One of them got out and deployed the vehicle. The other remained inside. He decided to get in in the seconds after the first guy left the back and entered the vehicle.

The bins were loaded onto the arms, raised, and trash of all sorts was dumped out. The other bin wasn't full, apparently, so they left it.

The worker began to make his way towards the door. Aztec sprinted. He jumped, hung on, and climbed over the wall. Nobody had seen him. He was now riding in a dump truck.

This sucks.
