Everyone is going to cert aircraft just to be closer to it. It will be like tea-time in London; every night around sunset, the battle will suddenly grow quiet, as all three factions race to the airfields and take off. Two minutes later, the skies will be filled with hundreds of jets of all sizes, just hovering there, watching the sunset.
*Hundreds of soldiers all sigh quietly in unison: "Wowwww....." * |

it's pretty neat stuff... there are multiple cloud layers, each can be lit by the sun, each cast shadows, they make sunbeams, modulate naturally, get more dense and sparse as time pases, etc. right now it's all "programmer art" too, so once our environment art team gets ahold of it it'll be incredible.

Really matt, we need details on the entire technical stuff. All we know is josh saying that the game runs on Win XP. Is that indeed true? How exatly could those cloud stuff exist on DX9? Remember, Win XP does not go above DX9, because microsoft wanted to boost its crappy Vista and lied into our faces. |

Why, when I was your age, my home computer UPGRADED to 48kb of RAM. AND WE LIKED IT! Hard drive? Pah! We had two 5.25" floppy drives, and we were lucky to have that! You could put the OS floppy in one drive and your program in the other... you didn't have to swap disks back and forth at all. LUXURY! (That was an Apple ][. Not plus, not E... just "2") You could touch the CPU with your finger while it was running. The chips weren't soldered in place, so they'd slowly work their way lose after repeated heat/cool cycles. When it started acting flaky, I'd pop the cover and push all the chips back down. I was... 10? Good times. Now get off my lawn. |

Do we need to raise money for a Planetside 2 Red Bull fund? How about some Jaffa Cakes?
I appreciate that SOE is going all out on PS2. They could just create a static sky dome and call it good, but no. Dynamic photorealistic clouds in an MMO? It looks amazing (from what i can tell) even before the environment art team gets it. |

At first I thought that photo isn't impressive. Then, like Bags, it dawned on me that what I was comparing it to was pre-rendered wallpapers... now it looks pretty awesome!
It may also explain the tissues on the right* *People cry when they see the graphics... what did you think I meant? |

We know the engine is going to be used for EQ next as well, but it seems they have even bigger plans. Maybe they will sell the engine to others? After all, it is a full blown engine for MMOs, and that is quite rare. |
