Much <3 to the entire planetside 2 team

I may not like some stuff but it still appreciate them for the amount of effort they are putting in to what will in the end be a very small part of the overall player base. EA eat your heart out.

People that are hating on them clearly lack the comprehension of the sheer amount of time and effort that goes into game development and to get this level of interaction on top is pure gravy.

I recall higbys comment last night about having a 'talk' with someone concerning the podcast.. Higby, tell them that sort of thing is amazing and unprecedented, and all devs should be encouraged to interact like you guys have.

Don't mind the suits. You're doing it right.

Then we agree.

Thing is, I've played plenty of games where the mentality of the community have been that we owe something to the developer and therefor should not critic the game and that the developers knows what's best for the game. Which is not always the case as we've seen throughout history of gaming. Look at Eve Onlines "summer of rage", that was a great reaction from a community which later led to CCP turning 180, and actually starting to listen to the playerbase again.

Now I'm not saying it's like this with the PS2 devs or community, but we should be very careful so we don't foster that kind of mentality.

Yea they mentioned it on the cast, and T-Ray mentioned it here:

Podcast floored me when he spun the ipad around. You would never see that, anywhere.

The webcast was lighthearted and entertaining. Moar!

I'm currently following two games that are in development: Planetside 2, and Mechwarrior Online.

The difference in terms of outreach, social media, and interaction between devs and us common folk is NIGHT AND DAY.

I'm so impressed by how open and responsive the Devs of PS2 are, and I think the level of trust and interest they show in us and our thoughts is amazing.

Thank you.

I don't know why anyone at SOE is getting a dick up the ass about how the devs have handled interaction - Smedley set the bar high a year-plus ago when he was on the forums interacting with us. By saying "OHNOEZ GUYZ U CANT DO DAT!" they're basically complaining about everyone from the janitor to Smedley.

I'll say this: I was disappointed in the announcement for one reason - it was already done. Because that's how I got my PS2 t-shirt that I wear at least once a week, and twice on Sundays, and sometimes Y. I'm very thankful and very happy that we have this much involvement from a Planetside team. But I disagree about the fact that no other studio is this involved, because I work for one that is that involved.

Most likely cos they have signed a legal contract to not disclose this kind of stuff without someone elses permission, which they directly broke.

As they mentioned, you normally get fired for that kinda stuff

Yes, in a way those are useless cos most of the footage and all that is just positive hype, but there are dangers in showing a work in progress.

I cut out everything except this key phrase.

Since we don't know, let's make presumptions. That someone else could very well be, oh I don't know, the guy who runs the company - Mister John Smedley, aka Mister Saturday Night. So, who's to say he didn't stroll on down to the dev bullpen or whatever they're using and say "Hit up PSU."?

The other part of what you said "which they directly broke"... how do you know? Again, we've already seen massive amounts of posts from Smedley. Although to be fair he did drop off the face of the earth shortly after we started bitching about the lack of screenshots back in, what, March?

Well, we can agree its somewhat rare.

Though I imagine that for some releases its not out of a lack of desire, and more about the simple logistics.. I know on the skyrim forums the devs don't like posting not because they can't, but because its a major disruption.

We're fortunate to have a small community here.

My name is between the lines in the OP I'm sure of it.

But on the other hand, I say what I feel.

And another note, im sure the team are getting the brunt of past SOE/gaming/PS mistakes. I suppose its not fair on the team. But when A, B, and C all made big errors in judgement, then D will get a whole load of shit.

I'm sorry for anything I may of said to promote the posting of this thread.

it´s hard to keep the temper under control, with all that hype and passion boiling up all the time, we know that!

but supermortos post shows one again, that this community is more mature than most others! we are able to analyse our behaviour and try to keep control!

it´s a good thing, to let the devs know what we feel, just be sure not to hit them too hard on temporary disappointment about something not even important. i try to not post at all, when i´m in a rage. sometimes i start writing, but delete it before hitting submit. then i wait a little until the temper cools a bit and try again. helps a lot ;-)

SuperMorto - Cool of you to step up like that.

It's not just you though - it's an overall trend I was starting to see.

I think what the devs are doing is great and this is a good post pitched right.

Nice one Hamma needed to be said
